Nice! These look to be around half the price of Vola.

If you get a display Vola then they're much cheaper

Interesting; is there an ex-display listing somewhere?

How hard would this be?
To delacquere brass ones? High risk imo.
I'd feel more comfortable buying chrome plated brass ones and fully stripping back to the brass. That way you'd know if you're getting an even finish.

I’ve done it many times to low value things - lacquered sash window pulls and latches etc. It depends on how they’re lacquered, and you can’t tell until you try. I have left in acetone, boiled in vinegar, cooked in oven to age, etc. and had good results, but I wasn’t looking for a particular finish, just to age them. I guess if you get markings you don’t like you can polish it again and let it tarnish naturally.

Very hard to get solid brass taps now, I had a total mare getting a set for a job about 2 years ago.

Companies like Watermark Collection and Studio Ore do them, they're very nice but very spendy.

A real bugger to keep clean. This was WIP.

In what sense?

What are they made of?

Toothpaste and any bathroom cleaners tend to stain. I prob need to treat them with something.

Is this not the whole point of unlacquered brass, to quickly end up ‘dèrelicte’?
-
• #7591
You could try polishing and lacquering them. That way you'd have a protective finish that's easy to wipe clean.

Yeah but not quite as much would be good.

Shower controls are bare solid brass, they develop over time or clean up quick with a rub from half a lemon.
Tap is Vola and actually not brass, but the best PVD I’ve seen (on top of solid brass of course 🤷🏻♂️). Doesn’t develop a patina but looks nice anyway.
Both look gross in these photos.

In related chat: shower enclosure vs open-ended (one quarter walk-in); pros and cons? Worth the added cost and cleaning of a full enclosure to have a steamier experience?
-
• #7596
Only you can answer your 2nd question. But on the first, it needs to be a relatively big enclosure not to have any water splashing out - do bear that in mind.

we have the same vola tap in stainless
the power control lever/up down bit needs some sort of greasing as its got pretty stiff

On shower enclosures, does anyone have a square corner-opening one they'd recommend? Or warn against?
I think that's the best option for our needs but I can't see any with online reviews and I'm not up on my shower enclosure brands.

Good to know if I get asked again.

More progress here in our kitchen. Floor screwed down and decoupling mat down. Must say I'm regretting not going for a Green floor now. Would have brought the garden inside. Holes drilled for the lights and ceiling speaker. Plasterer and tiler come this weekend.
I've spotted a couple of things that I would have done differently. I always actively avoid conflict so hate bringing these things up as not sure if I'm being pedantic or there's an actual case to remediate. It's offending my OCD that the lights and speaker aren't in alignment but it's because of the joists. The sockets are in on the walls that are getting plastered.
