At one point we had underfloor heating in the bathroom courtesy of badly fitted recessed full fat spotlights in the ceiling below

Heads up for anyone planning
The fairly cool 3D scans of houses that go up on house sales now are doable yourself if you have a recent iPad/iPhone. Probably Android, haven't checked.
App is Matterport Capture
https://matterport.com/en-gb/3d-capture-applicationsI have a 2020 iPad Pro, so it uses the Lidar scanner.
Scanned my lounge (just bought it, work in progress, excuse the mess etc).https://my.matterport.com/show/?m=B6xdAjJhaTC
Free accounts have max of 1 project, so that's fine.
Also then does the floor plan for you and lets you pick two points and will give you the distance between.
Looks really impressive for free imho... -

Hah, they're lovely aren't they. Apart from the bit by the window which looks like it was damaged and redone by a toddler with Play-doh. But there's definitely potential there

I'd love some views on potential bathroom refresh/revamp I'm looking into at the moment. Basically, current bathroom is tired, could do with replastering, definitely needs new suite and tiling, pretty sure I'm up for going ahead with everything including new flooring and fittings etc. The main question is the window, see pic below, which is quite traditional. I've been liking some of the more modern designs on here and elsewhere recently, but concern is that anything modern/sleek will not work with the window which is pretty traditional. And ideas on potential designs/inspiration that would fit with the window as-is, or whether it would just be worth replacing the window to allow something more contemporary?
Cheers

I dunno what layout you're going to go for but the reeded glass window is really nice, maybe you could mirror it with a reeded glass shower screen or cabinet. You could use some fluted tiles or panelling to echo the reeded texture? I'd probably try and take it back to bare wood if poss as think that could look really nice. But basically it's a nice reeded sash window so think as long as it's not a super plush handleless spaceship it should look good

+1, wish my window was reeded glass!

Thanks! This is really helpful and great to get another perspective - I was looking at really quite contemporary designs but that would be out of kilter with the rest of the flat anyway, plus my girlfriend was not keen. Good to tone it down from there, make a feature of what we can from the existing bathroom and design around that.
RE taking the window back to bare wood - is that an achievable DIY project or something you'd want someone with experience/correct tools to take on? I'm struggling to find images to picture it, especially with the depth of the frame ours has, there would be a lot of wood on show so finish would need to be really good?

will have a think if I can find anything
This was quite a nice example of something which might work
Don't really like the design but layout thought was worth sharing

Why is it always the Aussies?
One day I may replace my cheap shower screen with a fluted glass one. -

I feel like going back to bare wood on a bathroom window would be an error on practicality grounds. It's also quite hard to strip it so it's completely clean.

Plus you have no idea how much of it is good wood and how much is filler. Risky move that may not pay off.

These are SO helpful, thank you! Really has helped me visualise how the 'traditional' sash window can work in a more contemporary setting and given some really interesting design ideas too. Any more reference points you/anyone else has for contemporary bathroom designs they like - ideally including a sash window but certainly not essential - would be much appreciated! Similarly just places to look for design inspiration...
Cheers

This was my concern having sanded many an old sash window just to key it for repainting.... having seen the links Tenderloin shared above I'm far more comfortable with the idea that it can work as is, either refreshed in white or maybe even something more daring.

Was it your bathroom in the beautiful dusky pink tiles? This is a big inspiration, albeit I can't find any pics at the moment.... if so, reckon you could link me to them?

Not Chris' but pink, sash

Maybbeeeeee... if so you're too kind!
Its a real nightmare to take pics of for some reason as the colour balance goes crazy, but here are a couple of snaps straight off my phone.
Tiles are nothing special, just tops tiles pink ones, taps Arte Form (form EC1 Bathrooms), Lusso Stone Sink and toilet, Bette Bath.

Sent before seeing you have posted exactly that....
