Josko look nice. How did the price compare?

Yes yes - forrin ones tilt and swing in which takes some getting your head round as we’re so used to the opposite. No doubt eurofolk can’t understand how we exist without tilting and exterior shutters. Though I think Velfac are Danish…
I slightly regret being so grumpy about them now, but do stand by the view that from an engineering perspective they’re a worse product for more money than so many others.
But if it’s slim frames you’re after they’re your boys and they do have lovely warm wood inside.
I also think Victorian houses are an equal low point in British town planning and architecture, alongside 1990s Wilson Connelly stuff. The older I get the more Mary Mary I seem to be.
Luckily I live in a Stirling prize winning house* so can lob such stones about willy nilly.
. * do I fuck.

Oakmont Glazing was helpful for us, they do a few systems so aren’t too biased. Nigel was really knowledgeable

Almost done with getting our kitchen units in - just pelmets and kickboards to go in now. Worktops getting fitted probably next week I hope.
Now the real battle begins with deciding on a colour...

Estonia and Lithuania seem to be very good at making stuff.

Google it again, go on. There are probably at least 14 manufacturers you haven’t considered.

Don't make me link you to my Notion page.

Near identically unit for unit, although I believe Josko charged extra for survey/installation where as Velfac factored this into their prices.

Worktops
What are you having? If you're not having stone or stainless then I would suggest having stone or stainless steel either side of the cooker. Otherwise there's a good chance a big frying pan is going to singe the surface closest to the cooker.
If you had granite it would blend into the cooker and you wouldn't notice it.

We're going with a white-ish quartz, going all the way round the back of the cooker as well. Aiming to be able to splash red wine and put pans down all over the place.

wouldn't notice the left side being slightly wider than the right?

@TW are you in Cardiff or did I imagine that?
When we rented in a victorian terrace in Cardiff we could see into our neighbours loft, there was a huge gap between the chimney and roof joists that you could have climbed through. Can't imagine what sort of fire risk that poses.
I never did steal their box Christmas decorations but thought about it all the time.

I'm not, although I do have family there. Their house is twice the size and half the price of ours. Cunts.

I withheld my last 10% from my shit cowboy builders and in a letter with an album full of photos of their shit work and the damages it’s caused, asked for a further 20% back so someone could rectify it. Not had a reply in 3 weeks. Don’t know whether to chase, look into small claims court or what.
Super wet at the moment, so no surprise something they did - the bathroom extractor - let’s a load of water in. Quite high up so I can’t get up to have a look from the outside with a ladder. Want to get it sorted but not sure how.
Also glad I kept the stained glass window but that also now lets in water. Again, that’s going to be very difficult to fix now it is in and the neighbours aren’t fans of access.

Thanks for this - can you recommend a company that you think do make a better replacement for Velfac?
-
• #5098
Realistically you'll never see the money again and will also have to pay someone else to sort. But absolutely small claims it if you can afford to be shot of the court fees on top of any reparation work for someone else.
I feel the neighbours frowning should not even be on your radar of concerns after all this, but easy for us to say.
Real horror show.

For the fan I think they're meant to have these little rain deflection hat things. Have a look to make sure.

Anyone in Bristol got a big ladder? Yeah think that’s it! I did see it when he left and thought that should be somewhere

I was looking at Josko One for a project last year. Very similar to Velfac although slightly more refined looking and slimmer sightlines (50mm vs 54mm).
TBH Velfac works well if you keep well within their size charts. Start pushing the max sizes and it can get a bit clunky as mentioned above.
