I'm a Velfac fan boy, but their system means one leaf has to be fixed. Didn't actually know you could spec oak.

Ohhhhh didn’t know one had to be fixed, boooooooooooo…
On a dif note, how daft an idea is it to have the roof on an outrigger with a 2mx2m skylight? It’s going to be an office not a bedroom so can’t see why not?

Being boiled alive while working? I'd have thought there are building regs to get around, U values etc. IIRC there's a ratio of glazing to solid that can't be exceeded, unless you call it a conservatory.

This I did not know, and didn’t really think of, cheers!

Is building one that beyond you?

Trying to work out whether to go for one of these or just a fixed window - will have a bench on inside and outside, so like the bifold idea
-
• #3633
Imo fixed. Imagine all the gubbins that make up that window when it’s closed (most the time).

or sliding ;)

Perhaps not, but it would probably take me a year and I wouldn't offer myself a ten year warranty

Correct answer.
Max light to match the doors you’ll get as they have integrated handles and if you don’t get them you’re a nobody. -
• #3637
Yeah that's fair, cheaper to be working and paying someone than do yourself.

Ref Ikea kitchen chat: we were put off by how much filler they'd have to use. Howdens had a much greater range of cabinet widths that gave us much more space in a (small, old, wonky) kitchen space.
-
• #3639
This is also a consideration, depending on how accurate my measurements are we may be ok with IKEA's offering - but the walls are wonky

Not personally but I did chat to someone who does this as their business. The one thing he didn't do was replace the metal bars which allow a sliding sash to move inwards, which is the one one thing I need doing.
If there's not a specific company near you maybe try stick a job on my builder which is what I'm going to try and doEdit this was meant to be in reply to @spotter recent question

We have an island with the hob on it. It’s nice to look into the room whilst cooking. Since we’ve had our done I’ve had thoughts of a more adaptable space. Things that can change around if and when you need them. Saw these today expensive but if you need extra space some days or less at some points without plumbing or gas/leccy like the look of them

Verging on golf chat to just have them outside granted

How many panes? If its three you could do a single fixed pane to the left and a flying mullion pair to the right?
The compromise choice.

I have three questions for our extension.
Firstly does anyone have any builder recommendations in South West London (SW14)?
Budgets a bit tight so I need to spec a basic bathroom. Do I just go on Victorian Plumbing and sort price low to high or are there better places / brands worth considering. Im not really interested in bathrooms so something basic, with white tiles and chrome taps.
And lastly windows and doors - were going for something like the attached with a double door where the gap is. I see the recommendation for Velfac above. Does anyone else have any other recommendations?

The best budget option i found (for a different door system to yours, but they do similar) was the rather unpromisingly named Collin's Sash Windows. Essentially they're internet only and don't do installation, but made to order, the process was reasonably painless and they came in half the price of alternatives i found. Pleased with the result.

Quite often the builders can spec something budget off their trade accounts.
Price a cheap b&q bathroom suite then ask the builder to provide quote for supply of the items and see how it compares.

EBay is also a good place to look for bathroom options

That’s going to look amazing!
You can do a bathroom pretty smart and cheap, tops square tiles in any colour, but maybe splash out on a lusso stone or similar sink as that will make the whole think look nicer.
Cross water taps are good and on the cheaper end of the spectrum.
I recommend EC1 bathrooms too as they discount everything (15-25% retail). -

On the topic of glazing, I'm going to convert a door + windows opening into a single glazed door opening. I'd love to have a set of French doors in there rather than bifolds if possible.
Looking at an opening of 2,090 by 2,090 and will have the local glaziers coming round to quote but if anyone has recommendations I'm all ears (Need supply and fit if possible)
