From November last year
"Thank you for your e-mail, this has been forwarded to us by Soprema as we oversee distribution of the PAVATEX product lines in the UK. We/Pavatex do not have an approved installer model so unfortunately are unable to recommend any specific installers. We can price yourself or a contractor directly and provide any technical support required for the installation should the installer have questions."

How much is a Sunamp system to install?
I’ve given up on the idea of an AS heat pump; too pricy and not feasible in a draughty Victorian house without massive insulation upgrades...

We have just completed pavatexing our house. The carpenter / builder undertook the work with input from our architect. I don't think it is a particularly specialised job. But is messy and a little tricky dependent on how many obstacles on the walls you are working round. It's bloody good stuff though. We haven't got the other work finished yet in our big insolation project but feeling the difference already.

I think this is Dinesen Douglas in the place we are renting for the next three months. Photo for @Tenderloin

You'd be better starting with insulating it mega first as you'll need it with a heat pump.

That’s v useful because we plan to do something similar with our staircase!

Although there are some jarring elements to it 😬

After 3 months that gap to the left of the bottom step would really annoy me lol

Ha - thankfully it is a rental.

• #3087
Looks like a pretty nice rental!

It is in this place.
You are welcome to come and have a look if there are any design ideas of interest. They have something like forbo marmoleum on the first floor where the bedrooms are.

Ah no way - those guys built an amazing project in Norwich!
I may well take you up on that, cheers. Currently our stairs run straight out to the front door, the idea of adding a turn at the bottom to avoid this greatly appeals to me

Anyone got any experience of Mortex?
-
• #3091
Mortex is a micro-cement right? I do @Tenderloin
-
• #3092
Yeah - exactly. Just wondering how it compares to microcement or tadelakt. In terms of cost and use
-
• #3093
Quite a few people are doing resin based cement coatings these days, and from looking at their website I think Mortex is no different from other offerings.
These guys did our ground floor and first floor bathroom 6years ago including supply and install of everything over UFH installation and it’s still looking good.
https://www.microconcreteflooring.com/The market wasn’t as competitive at the time, and I think if I was to do it today I’d look into the below who I’ve heard good things about although think they might be supply only.
https://shop.detalecph.com/produkt/kabricfloor/If I was to be specifying it with work I’d probably go to the below who are the go-to polished concrete people.
https://www.lazenby.co.uk/catalogue/commercial-products/architop-flooring-commercial/No idea on pricing for any of the above in 2022 moneys. Tadelakt is lime based and different in it’s properties but I don’t have knowledge beyond that.
Use wise, micro-cement is a super slim buildup and perfect with UFH. Clearly installation dependent, but incredibly convincing as a polished concrete whilst having some softness compared to the real thing. It is resin based so can dent if you drop something incredibly sharp/heavy.

This is exactly what I was going to ask. I love the idea of concrete, just not the reality with young children.

I’d say it’s on par with a hardwood timber floor if that makes any sense? A polished concrete floor is significantly harder underfoot and much less forgiving! We have young children and no issues here.

Awesome cheers mate!
My friend recently re-did his kitchen floor with the detale CPH stuff - and has said it looks good and has held up well (Plus cost efficient).
Two use cases would be first floor bathroom and ground floor kitchen/dinner/utility.

Loft talk, looking at a couple of layout options but the builder I have spoken to says having a loo at the front means it’ll need to be a maserator, that can’t be right? Waste pipe is at the back of the house.
-
• #3098
ask me about the time my friends were on holiday and the macerator in their rental exploded
-
• #3099
Depends on drop I guess, but it sounds about right.
Different situation, my folks had one when they put a bathroom in the pitch of the roof. Although the waste was still on the back of the house it was way over from the other waste pipes and the limited floor/ceiling height meant there was no room for a drop.
If you think about the downside you can understand why builders would rather suggest a macerator.

No.
Oh go on then…
pretty sure its reinforced because i can see bits of iron poking through :)
