  • Oh SNAP! Except opposite land. I need fucking longer ones as I’ve switched to overhead feed.

Edit: I’ve just had a look at your throttle cables. I’ve got some Suzuki long ones if you want them?

  • Sweet - are they the full K-tech cartridges? If so, totally dope. I love K-tech stuff.

@chak Might not be the same in your manor, but crashed Ducs are a-plenty out here. Makes for some good ebay Brembo MC bargains. Nearly all the high end models post the 1198 have radial MCs. I think the one on my GSXR came from a Hyperstrada SP....works great anyways.

  • Apparently bandit cables are slightly longer than GSXR ones of the same period, so for £20 thought it's worth a try. Thank you for the kind offer. If that's not a goer then will go custom and contact Venhill.

I know it would have been cheaper to put a wheel weight on the lockstops but the longer bars, that can now be at a less acute angle, feel a lot better already.

  • The internals are unknown, the seller bought them 2nd hand and couldn't remember. They were a good price for standard forks, so either way it's okay with me.

  • Say no more. I do prefer slightly longer bars. I've got some clip ons for it, but as it's a twin, they sit really far ahead as opposed to down if that makes any sense?
It's looking do damned good. Proper clean. Any other prep before forks are fit? No need to change triple?

@Jung I nabbed one from an R6, they're Brembo, if less fancy. Worked amazing with the Nissin calipers, but not sure how they'll work with the Monoblocks. We'll see. Can score an RCS for about two hundies.

  • Any other prep before forks are fit?

Thanks a lot, was surprised how different the bike felt with slightly wider bars. Keeping the standard yokes makes the swap less of a ball ache in terms of retaining lockstops and ignition. Plus, I think fancy forks in OG yokes will be slightly more sympathetic and can always get them coated or polished depending on how tarty I feel. I just need to source calipers, lines and front mudguard as funds allow then we're ready to party. Even though the bike has only 16k on the clocks I'll be changing the headstock bearings for peace of mind.

  • Yeah first time I went with machined triples. Didn’t like it much. Polished would be the epitome of pimp.

As an idea, Yamaha Monoblocks from 06+ will fit in those forks. I’d have loved to have gone Brembo, but dimensions are different as far as my research got to.

    This just arrived.

  • Don't think polished yokes are my bag, but I'll definitely be removing the casting marks and likely getting them blasted. Machined yokes would be even better, shame you don't have a thread for all this awesomeness! Didn't even realise Venhill did custom stuff until recently, very useful to know.

  • Reckon the danger with polishing is once you pop, you’ll start living for the chrome.
Cable fitted and I gotta say, it was a fucking breeze. Well worth the 25 quid.

I’m not organised enough for a thread. Live vicariously through yours.

  • If they've got the stock caps, they're not the cartridges. That said, the K-tech emulator things they flog are frigging ace too. I had them in my last GSXR and they're very good. Sounds a sweet deal.

I've got a big billet of Magnesium in the shed, likely big enough for 3-4 sets of yokes but everyone I know is too chicken to machine it. I'd love a set done up with DOW7.

@chak - should work fine mate, they're all about the same size. I want to say mine is a 19mm? Good firm feel. I had to splurge and get a new RCS14 for my RS125 recently as yoy can't find small, remote reservoir MCs secondhand. It was 240 inc shipping and taxes and a bit ouch considering my previous bargains...The box felt quite special though.

  • Polished yokes would look ace.

  • Thanks for the info. The forks seem to have K-Tech lower compression valves, but the top caps(?) look standard so will update once they're serviced so we know what the deal is. Can't wait to have 21st century brakes plus more room up front with the wider bars will be nice. Wish I had lumps of billet kicking around, this tinkering business is addictive stuff eh.

@Tom13 been keen to get something cerakoted for a while so a dark grey is probably what I'm leaning towards, once the casting marks have been removed obviously!

  • Just some new brake lines away from the front end swap.

  • Holy mother of Madre mia! Fucking. Yes! This is exciting.

  • Popped out yesterday and ironically the new Brembo RCS 19 master cylinder has made the brakes as good as they've ever been. Hopefully the M4 calipers will take things up a notch again.

  • Don't think I've mentioned it here, but the swingarm swap is also coming along nicely. The brushed finish should now blend in well with the frame.

  • Ooh what’s the word with that? What’s your objective?

  • Lengthens the wheelbase making the bike more stable. Quite a popular mod in the Golden Era race class and same length as the period Harris version from back in the day Chris Walker and James Whitham used etc. Obviously I need this for nipping to the pub on Sundays. Does eliminate the torque arm though.

  • That sounds like exactly the perfect type of mod to be honest. Been trying to go the opposite with the SV as it’s a V twin and a bit long wheelbase wise. Nothing easy though.
This is shaping up to be quite the perfect GSXR ain’t it?

  • This is shaping up to be quite the perfect GSXR ain’t it?

That's the rough idea. Will get the suspension sorted after all this excitement then finally power. The 98/99 (which this is) GSXR got an even shorter swingarm, god knows why.

  • What’s on the back on this? Really tempted to head down to JHS and see what shocks they use. How will the suspension geo chafe with the new swing arm?

  • Not really sure what provoked Suzuki to shorten the wheelbase, possibly a trend of the time. The '96 factory team initially struggled in WSBK with high-speed stability before making the change. If anyone can advise on SV suspension, it'll be JHS. They seem like good eggs.

I bought the swingarm from the JHS equivalent for SRADs (Meltedsiders), he sells them modified to fit straight in with new bearings and dog bones to correct the geo.

  • This thread has made me want to learn to ride a motorbike. Something I’ll do later this year hopefully. 👌

  • What a compliment, you'll absolutely love it. For me it was watching Long Way Round.

All this talk of the golden age of BSB, here's Walker and Hodgy flying around Cadwell.

  • What a fucking shot! That jump scared me shitless and still does to this day. For some masochistic reason though, I really want to go back!
