  • Defo needs deep section 650b wheels

Should have bought the Spengles ;-)

  • Dibs unused Stigmata.

  • I’ll have you know it’s been outside atleast 4 times. 6 if you count the garden.

  • You do you.

    (I approve)

  • I knew I could count on your support.

What size dub spacer do you need? I might have a couple spare now.

  • If I can get a magic gear ratio, it would be tempting to run it fixed initially since that would be the fastest route to getting it on the road.

  • Looks like I’m going tt mode first.
Already feel like it’s getting out of hand.
Look for tt shifters if anyone has any spare? Anything considered.

  • Have you booked some wind tunnel time yet?

  • DIY wind tunnel in the garage just out of shot.
    0.03 seconds faster over 40 miles…

  • Well the death trap is finally coming together. Ridiculous deep section carbon wheels would have been my ideal but trying to keep it ratty-cheap.
I think these superstar components silver pave rims look better on the bike than I’d expected.
Still to find out if the stock seat post will be too short, annoyingly a longer replacement hylix post is £100.
I’ve got pretty much everything needed for the build except cranks. Maybe some 7800 arms.

  • I have a couple of new projects on the go so figured I’d dust off this thread.

I bought a Fairlight Faran on the forum a few months ago. It’s been repainted in a colour not far off a Navy warship. I like it.

I want silver finishing kit, just picked up the Thomson post but still not found a matching stem.
I think I’m going to remove the anodising from the pictured black Service Course sl stem and see how it looks.
I’ve still not really settled on the final build, I’ll probably go through a few iterations. I maybe fancy running it with high rise mtb bars for a while.

Can’t help think it would look better with silver rack?

I’ve got a stooge mk5 in the works too, don’t really know what I’ll do with it. Always wanted one, found a frameset, bought on impulse and now wondering when I’ll even ride it.

  • Oooh, what’s size stoogie? You’re a large one aren’t you?
Just build it anyway. You always punch out good shit.

  • You’re a large one aren’t you?

    lol how dare you.

    It’s the bigger size, 21” I think?

I had the idea that it would be fun for taking my daughter on her first proper mtb rides around the Glentress trails but I don’t think I necessarily needed a new bike for that.

  • wondering when I’ll even ride it.

This is what is stopping me buying a Speedbomb frame. Looking forward to your Mk 5 updates.

  • I got some 2.8” tyres cheap on marketplace. It’s designed for a 2.6” rear, the 2.8 fits but it only leaves about 2mm clearance.

The 2.8 on the front does look big but it’s not quite got same stature as the 3.25” tyre it’s designed around. I tried to cheapskate it but I’ll probably stump up for the huge front tyre.

I’ll run it single speed with a 19t cog that @Jakub96 kindly gifted to me with some bars and tires. But I feel like I learned the hard way that single speed is strictly for hard bastards only. Unless you all actually just get off and push up hills?

I’ve got some red Hope tech 3 brakes that I think might go well with the frame colour. I’m just missing a 30.9 seat post. Ideally silver Thomson again if anyone has? Also need 180mm centre lock rotors.
Running stooge moto bars but there’s some 50mm rise mtb bars I might try.

I think it’s going to be very fun to ride, I’ve heard people say it’s a bit like a giant bmx. Hoping that’s the case.
I absolutely love the double top tubes that form a one piece seat stay/top tube. Fork looks terrifying, pretty sure I’m going to break it.

  • matching stem

Silver kalloy Uno (e.g. from spa cycles) solves the issue for £20 or so. Why bother stripping the ano...

  • You’re trying to reason with a man who polishes crank arms for fun.

  • Listen, at least you don’t get mistaken for someone’s child in crowded spaces!
I maaaaaaybe be keen on the MK5. 21 glorious inches might do.

  • Reminds me that the raceface turbine cranks for the stooge can go in the acid bath too.

@Cupcakes yeah it’s definitely a bit stupid, I don’t deny it. But it gives me something to do night. The Zipp stem does have some annoying storage scratches on it that will buff out nicely, so I don’t feel like I’m ruining a perfectly good stem.

  • I think there is a good chance I’ll build it then sell fairly soon. I have another mtb which makes this all the more daft, but I’ll see how I get on with it. I’ll give you a heads up if I do move it on.

  • My entree to MTB was with a SS Inbred. My fag ravaged lungs managed to get to the tower at GT without too much horror.

  • Here we go again. Don’t think I’ve got the energy for a mirror finish on these ones.
