The art of storytelling from Atinuke on BBC Radio 4, I wish I had given my children the listening ear and the skill to speak as Atinuke does so brilliantly.
Describing the vibrancy and joyful life in Africa filled with wonder.

Army is inherently racist, who would have suspected.
Outcome was favourable, but to be in the situation is abhorrent. -

Good outcome .
Never heard of a Rasta joining the British army though -

I hadn't heard of this case before. Quite apart from the risk of more people dying because of the murderer's lies, there seems to be a question mark over William Bennett's conviction on an unrelated charge.
Bennett was never charged with the crime but served 12 years for armed robbery of a video store – a charge he denied – and was released in 2002. Hehir goes on: “The story ended in the public’s eyes sometime in January of 1990. The story for the Bennett family still isn’t over to this day.”

Yes, it dropped, thanks you reposting.
I am blessed to have several aunties who are also grandmothers. I see them at family gatherings, dinner parties and have one to one calls, thanks to Mrs M and her Bajan and Guyanese family.
And even though we are not blood related I just love the fact that they have such big hearts, all embracing, generous in spirit, open handed, kind and so sharp witted, also when I get the longest schtoop I know I’m in their good books and would do anything for them 🤣🤣

Hair discrimination again:
According to CNN, the Barbers Hill independent school district forbids male students from wearing their hair in a style “that would allow the hair to extend below the top of a t-shirt collar, below the eyebrows, or below the ear lobes when let down”. George’s long dreadlocks, which he keeps woven together in a protective style on top of his head, supposedly violates that dress code.
Hope his case makes this hairstyle really famous so that stupid 'policy' backfires completely.

Hey does anyone have a contact for the BCN? I'm making a small budget brand film for LCC and need to find cyclists of colour to appear in it, range of ages, both sexes, and would like to speak to the BCN to see if any of their members would be able to appear in it.
Let me knowThanks

Cultural and ethnic bias caused a woman to die during pregnancy
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-merseyside-68300655But it was staff levels (low at the best of times) and a junior doctors strike that gets mentioned and notes of being difficult. Death of a badly and acute pain make people difficult cos they are in pain and trauma.

Saw this tonight at Shoreditch House screening.. Strongly recommended if you love music.
Cymande, hidden in plain sight, ignored by the industry in the UK, raised in a toxic environment of racism in London, yet provided DNA of beats/rhythm for early hip hop, house, drum n bass..
A remarkable documentary.. was an absolute privilege and joy seeing them close quarters at Ronnie Scott’s a few years ago when they got back together..

Some underwater archaeology here of 14 ships in the Bahamas, with a horrible possibility:
They were the ships that carried enslaved Africans on hellish transatlantic voyages through the 18th and 19th centuries, with up to 400 in a single vessel. Now the wrecks of 14 ships have been identified in the northern Bahamas, marking what has been described by a British marine archaeologist as a previously unknown “highway to horror”.
The fate of the African men, women and children trafficked in their holds is unknown, but if a vessel was sinking, they were often bolted below deck to allow the crew to escape.
Thanks for posting @lynx , sadly this has been highlighted for many years. Appears in the press, yet still not being addressed.
Black / Asian women remain vulnerable in the healthcare system. If it were that white women statically were higher risk, the NHS and the government would do more.
