• Love these cranks in orange, makes me want to get my all silver ones powder coated.

  • Maybe the pace look better on this old guy. They’re not exactly jump forks though ...!! Been thinking of reviving it recently for no reason whatsoever. Certainly wouldnt ride it.

Guess it’s SX24 for a reason though, 26s fit but the wheelbase looks so short!

  • The 420 a2c Pace forks are on. Only had 30mm of steerer to play with after all (had thought it would be more!) and therefore limited to a short bmx stem and 22.2mm bars. Only been up and down the pavement but sadly I think it handles worse than before. So I guess the forks are too long after all. Or the stem is too short. Or both. Or just an excuse to try a new setup?

  • ✌🏼 nice bike

  • Cheers! That stem is off my actual bmx so if you do find one in the garage I’m still in the market 😉

  • Think I can say this is finished now. Added a brake booster, syncros post, CK headset and swapped out the red parts. Also got a cheap pair of xtr levers so I could swap out the bent lever arm on my other ones.

  • Really want to stick a mtb stem and some risers on my rockhopper now. Build looks great!

  • Do it! Actually had to go with that bmx stem there cos all the mtb stems I could find had 40mm stack and I only had 30mm steerer left over

  • Haha! It really suits the build, love the subtle silver finishing kit

  • You sorted a stem out in the end then

  • yeah a bmx pal in Hackney had one in the end which was a bit easier to collect, and I found some bars with a 22.2mm clamp. thanks though!

  • Random question but what width bb axle are you using with those MT60 cranks? I’m cleaning up a set for a 1x conversion and unsure what one I need to source

  • I think on the trek 950 I’ve got a 113 for the 1x With MT60s, where the chainring is in the outer ring position. But I’ve had too many bbs to remember properly. I think 123mm is the recommended for the triple set up on those cranks... so with 1x you want something shorter

  • Got you, cheers. I saw that sheldon recommends a 122 but I was wondering if I’d need a shorter one for 1x. I’ll take a punt on 113 and swap out if I need to I reckon.

  • I’ve really gone round the houses with forks. The pace ones are a little too long and the bike does feel a bit weird. I originally swapped out the threaded spinner ones because I fancied having an ahead set up instead. Then I tried some shorter cannondale headshox forks which are closer to the right a2c length but erring on the short side I think. I had to lose the Chris king hs for the lower stack cane creek to eek out a bit more steerer length (already needed that low stack bmx stem with 190mm steerer on the pace forks - the headshox have 186mm).

I think the pace or original spinner ones (below) probably look the best, but keen to hear your thoughts 🙂

  • Bike looks awesome. I had a Rocky Mountain Equipe when I was in Canada as a town bike and the frame was the nicest thing about it.
The bike looks so good with the Pace forks but if it rides better on the Spinners I'd throw them back on. Whichever you go for you're on to a winner as the bike looks great on all 3.
Are the renthal bars something you can still buy new or do I have to start looking for vintage pairs?

  • Nice collection of forks you’ve acquired! 410/20 a2c is a nice point for retro 26er geo. I think CK also do a higher stack crown race.

The barnacle could be the one when it comes out!

  • Cheers! They’re discontinued sadly as they are too good. BLB do a very similar shaped one though that is reasonably priced.

  • Thanks pal 😎. Yeah the bike was spec’d with mag21s which I think were 405. So I’m either side of design with 2 pairs of 395 and the paces at 420.

  • Ahh thanks. Good shout on those, I'll give them a try!

  • I bought a pair of these for my old Cannondale MTB. Similar look to the Pace forks and nice and light and 405 a2c

  • Love this build!! I’d put the spinners back on and use a dreaded ahead adapter.

  • Threadless forks similar to Spinner show up on Ebay now and then.
Rocky Mountain was the best builder back in their prime.

  • Thanks for all the suggestions. Problem with the spinners is that threaded headsets are annoying, especially on mtbs. They’re forever coming loose. Maybe I’ve just never had a decent one? Perhaps @davidual suggestion of threadless versions of the spinners would be best but I just can’t bring myself to buy any more forks right now! I’ve put the pace forks back on for the moment, at least the bike handles better at speed / going downhill with the slacker head angle so I’ll just have to hoon it everywhere.
