That looks amazing. What's the weight on those bars?! They look like they could work as an RSJ in an earthquake zone.

Ace ace ace want want want.

Haha thanks! No idea on weight - it's certainly not that kind of build. Not as heavy as I was expecting, though. They feel great.

This is so nice, can't wait to see more

Love the look of those bars, I’d been after a set for my wife’s bike and noticed Planet X were sold out, realise why when I see how much they cost elsewhere.
This really is turning out good though. -

They certainly took some hunting.

Thanks for the heads up. Pretty happy with the Nittos, but might get in touch for the sake of completeness.

Acquired (most of) an XT 780 group - will hopefully be running 2x10, with a cobbled together 94bcd sub-compact front chainset...

Looking sweet and the paint still looks in great shape. I do love a splatter paint job 👌

I had a feeling I might come across a funny standard or two along the way.
The Avid Shorty Ultimates are different to normal canti' brakes in that the spring sits outboard / above the arm. So, the bushing in the arm is designed to clear the whole boss, including the shoulder that the spring would usually sit around(if that makes sense).
The bushing doesn't clear these shoulders on the boss unfortunately, and having investigated, it's not just the thickness of the paint on the boss that's causing the issue - the shoulders are 0.6-0.8mm bigger in circumference than the inside diameter of the bushing, which might not sound very much, but it is. This leaves me with a few options:
1) File down the boss shoulders
2) Drill out the (aluminium) bushing on the brakes a bit
3) Buy different brakesEnter cognitive dissonance.

Shiny things have arrived!
The intention is to run the Middleburn RS7 as a double (44/30t?).
I have some polished Archetypes here to build up around the Ultegra hubs.

Finally have most of the parts here, after a lot of faffing around.
Starting to come together.Ended up deciding to go 1x, and finding a nice set of XT739 brakes/levers. I think they suit the bike better. Stressing out over the teal cables / pedals, but warming to it.

You tease. No full bike shots? Looking good from what I can see

Aha it's not quite finished yet. Waiting on a rear mech and a front rack.

This looks stunning!
Love the modern narrow-wide on period cranks look.

Teal cables are a nice touch imo!

Finally managed to get it to a point, and take it for a quick spin.

This is absolutely stunning, looks very comfy indeed.
Love the period cranks with modern drivetrain. Have you used an 11-speed XT RD with 10-speed shifter & cassette? If so, may I ask what the chainline is at the chainring?

That is lovely!
Amazing. I have a Kuwahara myself! A Jaguar. And this is making me want to buy new, shiny stuff to put on it.
