Well yes. And anyone who's had the misfortune of discussing recepes with an Italian won't be supprised by their proclivity for fascism.
But I'm not sure you can tie historic left and right wing terrorism with the majority electing a fascist that directly.

Lady S attending Fash week whilst this story runs and runs was a Marie Antoinette moment (who according to Fat Dave was a pioneer in radioactivity)..

You have to wonder if they are adults that can dress themselves or kids on a street corner
being groomed by gangs with small gifts. -
• #5481
Instead you would do what? Just ignore one of the big 4
Boy is this some false dichotomy.
I guess it's just the way it goes though. You go to Germany, you discuss trade. You go to Belguim, you discuss EU policy. You go to Italy, you discuss how much you love drowning poor people out at sea. Those are your only options.

Which is to say, history will judge whether it was right or wrong to embrace Meloni

you discuss how much you love drowning poor people out at sea.
Now who's the false dichotomy?

This is a good short read on the sum total of what we have to learn from Italy on curbing illegal migration: https://wewantedworkers.substack.com/p/what-can-the-uk-learn-from-italian
tl:dr:
absolutely nothing

Politics really needs a reset with all the gifts, donations, private communications, second jobs and the rest.
Rules at my place are super strict on accepting gifts, no work communication through whatsapp/private emails, etc.
Running the country though, fuck it do what you want.

Well no. Italy actually seems to have made progress on stopping the number of crossings attempted by making deals and investments with/in north African coastal countries.

Starmer and co must be feeling quite confused, having formed the mistaken opinion that they were political geniuses.

Where did you get that idea?

We could make deals with France to build wells and schools there and maybe donate some
tents and blankets. -
• #5492
Well, they could certainly make deals with France yes, e.g. build a processing centre there like the French offered to the Tories. They could also work with some of the countries where large numbers of immigrants are coming from, obviously not those that are war-torn etc.

When I was working at one of the velodromes a rider bought me 6x beers for Xmas.
Management found out, confiscated the beer and put it in the staff Xmas party raffle prizes. The person who won them knew what had happened so gave them to me (unprompted). It left a funny taste.
Apparently we were close enough to being local authority workers it could be considered a bribe.

Or they could try to change the narrative on migration. All developed western countries have a demographic problem. We need younger workers coming in. The UK is lucky, as opposed to say Japan, in that we are a desirable country which people want to live and work in. It could be spun as such a positive. Higher tax revenue, more public spending, better services etc.
Here's a pretty sober analysis of migration (9 months old).

Are you suggesting people don't want to live / work in Japan?
It's a weird example because as I understood it Japan have been relatively hostile to (full) immigration hence ageing workforce
-
• #5499
Japan is attractive to weeb fetishists, but it’s not a draw for medium to long term settlement, even if the migration hurdles were reduced.

Is this photoshop?
Instead you would do what? Just ignore one of the big 4, the one with the the massive fuck off coast line where >150k migrants p/a enter.
All at a time where we're trying to rebuild relationships with Europe. Post Brexit we are in such an unbelievably weak position. It's a testiment to how ingrained British exceptionalism is, that even now you have voices on the left who take it as a given.
IMHO if Britain, France and Germany had been thoughtful and taken Italy's concerns seriously 15yrs ago Meloni wouldn't be in power today. But we are where we are, so we've got to make lemonade.
