  • Tice thinks the current government are socialist. Plus he’s just a sock puppet for the serial electoral failure that is Farage.

The fact that 1 in 10 supports Reform is mind boggling but when your only other wing nut non Tory choice is Lawrence “I’m not a racist” Fox then you have few natural homes.

And I know sneering and name calling is neither big nor clever but belittling these odious people does have its place and time.

  • Yeh Farage was saying there is no centre right party in the UK and that's what the electorate are desperate for and the void the reform party will fill, not socialism from Starmer

  • Just imagine if Westminster elections weren't FPTP.

  • New centre right party in Ecosse..

  • At the moment they get to flap their gums with no responsibility or accountability, if another option than FPTP allows the blowhards in to Parliament then they are “part of the elites” and can be held to account for their actions/inactions.

Of course, they will always be thwarted by shadowy forces, pretty much like the 14 years in current government

  • Reform are centre right 🤣

  • Must be right up your street

  • Sadly not. Sarwar is endearingly central casting WoS Labour. The privately educated son of a former MP who just happens to be one of the largest party donors. Dad fucked off to manage the Punjab after his nomination for a peerage was blocked by HMRC (meanwhile Anas' brother was convicted of VAT fraud). All just standard operating model Glasgow Labour shite. It's fascinating to watch the grift here move back to Labour from the Snippers.

  • Fair enough (and accepting at face value) although as a self proclaimed Scottish Tory voter the cognitive dissonance/hypocrisy displayed in referring to the grift of others is quite something

  • Always amusing when our colonial overlords attempt to understand the windswept hinterlands.

  • Anyway moving away from my own tendency towards Wodehousian cliche, something altogether a bit more cosy...

  • I can confirm it is definitely a windswept hinterland out in Herefordshire where @Big_Ted lives. With a lot of flooding.

  • Yep

  • All quiet in here then after Starmer blackmailed the speaker into overriding the SNP on their opposition day to include an Israel-friendly amendment to the ceasefire vote?

  • Any evidence of blackmailing? Haven't seen anything yet to back up this claim

  • Multiple journalists, including Newsnight's political editor, tweeted about it yesterday, having been briefed by Labour sources. Even the HIGNFY account was tweeting today that Starmer blackmailed the speaker.

  • HIGNFY

  • High quality sourced news there....

I've seen just as many reports saying they didn't blackmail anyone, with just as much evidence. "Labour source" could be anyone with a membership card.
I also wouldn't call the outcome Israel friendly, and it reads as a pretty good amendment.

Frankly all 3 parties were playing politics using the issue as cover, Labour just won (in the HoC vote). I'm still pretty disgusted by all of them.

  • Isn't that the issue? Nicholas Watt tweeted out unnamed source says labour threatened speaker, everyone picked it up and repeated it including MP's and then Nicholas watt clarified he spoke to the speakers office who clarified this wasn't what happened. Starmer has come out saying he didn't do this as well.

Someone is lying, guess we will find out in time

  • I've seen it suggested that the 'source' is John McDonnell.

  • I listened to a political commentator who said the rumoured senior labour source could be anyone even John mcdonnell who has no input at leadership levels any more.
    Possible Chinese whispers.

More f-ing politics when we should be worried about the Palestinians

  • More evidence that we have too much media. Hopefully will be reported accurately in the weekend papers, which is all most of us really need to read. Live news is shite. Don’t waste your energy on it.

  • I'm looking forward to the Staggers analysis.

  • It was a pretty shameful bit of politicking by all involved - but in terms of holding the PLP together ahead of whenever the election may be, it was the right tactical decision. But everyone came out looking a bit shit, for sure.
