Huge pockets.

And such a natural Labour voting bloc as well. Can’t go alienating your core vote now, can you?
-
• #3929
Who else are you going to vote for ¯\(ツ)/¯ (sadly not even a shred of /s left)
-
• #3930
It's shit, but who's going to change their vote over it, really. It feels like the fox hunting policy under new labour, something they might return to when they have a bit more confidence.
-
• #3931
It’s like many of the people at the top benefit from the status quo and don’t want much change.
(Said angrily at the situation, not mocking you)
-
• #3932
I'll never understand that view. If I tried the opposite but equally (in)valid argument - if you don't actively campaign for Labour as the lesser of two evils, you must not care about the people at the bottom who are suffering under the Tories - then you'd rightly regard me as a child.
Some people disagree with you. They have that right. They might be wrong. It doesn't usually make them morally defective.

The Reeves plagiarism scandal is very amusing. (Cntlr + P) X (Keith's ChatGPT woebot).

How many more dead children will it take for Starmer to call for a ceasefire?
-
• #3935
He's dug himself into a hole trying too hard to distance himself from any sniff of apparent or alleged anti semitism. Can't see how he's going to dig himself out of it now. Fucked off with him to say the least. ( I say that as a labour member)

• #3936
One more than the official (fucking awful) government line I guess.

• #3937
The same number that it takes to get Biden to that position
-
• #3938
Also the suspension of Andy McDonald is proper weak, given he said nothing wrong if you listen to the speech, he appears to of been suspended because labour can't be bothered to have a nuanced conversation
-
• #3939
Yeah, I didn't really want to post because I'm at the risk of sounding like a broken record, but if this is the full phrase that got him suspended, it's, well it's certainly something (especially considering Starmer's "clarifications" on his LBC interview gaffe).
We will not rest until we have justice. Until all people, Israelis and Palestinians, between the river and the sea, can live in peaceful liberty.

I hope the inquiry is quick, regardless of the outcome
-
• #3940
Feels like it's the use of the phrase:
between the river and the sea
Which is viewed as deeply offensive to one of the sides? Its a phrase that'd need reaching for, so not a slip of the tongue I'd guess?
The whole situation is a mess either way.

Lot of discussion in the Israel/Palestine thread as to how it's used/missused/weaponised by either side. But if we're at the point where a phrase is simply verboten, regardless of the context it's said in, or any qualifying statements then, I think that's a worrying look.
-
• #3942
Deeply worrying if simply mentioning the natural geography of a region can get you suspended from a political party
I suspect that MacDonald had pissed off Starmer and co and they were just looking for a pretext to get rid. Either that or Starmer and co are such unbearable cowards that they refuse to make even the simplest defence of their own people. I expect a little from column A and a little from column B.
-
• #3943
Out of curiosity do you think there's anything at all problematic with saying;
"We won't rest until until urban youths can live in peaceful liberty".
Or "Goldman Sachs operate globally"?
-
• #3944
been there for quite a while on multiple issues
-
• #3945
I think it's safe to say that if anyone is at all serious about peace, then they need to avoid the use of expressions that offend either side. He would have known that it was a loaded phrase.
-
• #3946
And if he didn't know it was a loaded phrase he had no business speaking at that rally.
-
• #3947
But it rhymes! And surely that's the most important thing speaking about a politically charged topic when emotions are high in the middle of a conflict.
Maybe I'm being harsh but imo the dude should definitely be suspended for being a fuckwhit if nothing else.
-
• #3948
On a general point I find it so quaint that even on the left British exceptionalism is so culturally ingrained that people think it matters what any of our political leaders say.
-
• #3949
can see why a lot of you believe in politicians can't (and shouldn't) change anything when you've got kitchen renovations to think about
-
• #3950
They definitely should change things. But I'm skeptical that what the leader of the opposition of a sketchy country with next to no global influence says on a talk radio show will change anything.
Imo Prince Charles and Beckham are probably the only relevant Britains who can make any impact on the world stage.
The landowner voting block must be huge ...
