Im pro this tax rise, not smart enough to know if it should be income tax or NI.

I detest regressive test that push the burden on everyone but also top line income tax that decreases total tax revenue and therefore everything.

What's the centre line alternative?

My current position is Starmer wins the next GE, even before the tax stuff.

People on the left would say that the top rate of tax and corporation tax or tax on property should be reformed to ensure that billionaires who've profited massively from Covid but pay fuck all should actually contribute.

Centrists would presumably fret about annoying billionaires in case there's a party on a yacht and they're not invited.

I'm aware of that, but aggi seems to be talking about electoral reform for general elections, not party leadership. I understand PR is being pushed for as something to discuss during the conference, but I've not been able to find anything from the leadership on it.

One of them. I know many people don't really take it seriously, but the 2019 GE result and the EHRC report - where Labour were found legally responsible for unlawful discrimination against Jews - were both potentially existential moments for the Labour Party. It's quite understandable that the party would take steps to prevent something like that from happening again.

I am inclined to agree with aggi that no-one outside the party gives a fuck. I don't think anyone outside the party cares about party democracy. But I do think it's a crucial first step in becoming electable again. The members have an outsize voice and they've gotten used to being thrown red meat over the last five or six years. But Labour only gets into power where the various voices within it are balanced. This strikes me as being a good way back to balance.

I mean EHRC have to approve our new complaints process - that's part of the action plan - so if they think Labour are likely to abuse the disciplinary process they'll be able to say so. But since its going to be 100% independent of the Labour Party, I think you'll have trouble sustaining that position.
