So I bought the kaffenback that was up on classifieds recently. This is to replace the CDF for touring / commuting.
I'm stuck between 2 set ups.
1) on one Mary swept bars, 2x9 xtr, hydro deore brakes.
2) drop bar, bar end shifters 2x10 set up, xtr mechs, xt cranks, trp spyres.
Both will have a basket/rack set up...either a pizza rack or M18 style rack / basket combo and tubus low riders....I like the idea of the latter
Wheels are yet to be built but I have some rival rims and dt swiss 240hugi hubs that will work for this.
Surly midnight special forks....only because I have them...will swap for straggler forks.
It does not fit 38c tyres, so 33/35 will have to do really
Dynamo? I'd love one...

I'd need to loose the MS forks...rather get a 12mm dynamo.

• #208
Thrifty JB

• #209
A JB who is exclusively into 'cheap looking but not really that cheap in comparison to a used Pinnacle Lithium or a Spesh Sirrus' hybrids

I think the Midnight Special forks look loads better on bikes that aren't Midnight Specials.

I know, the MS forks are ugly af
An understatement if ever I saw one

Bikes that are headed for recycling, for example

I'm hoping they look fine enough the get spotter off my back....

cheap looking but not really that cheap
Understated and classy?

Throwing some Inspo here for the kaffenback build.
Obviously I want a AC space horse...But thats not gonna happen.

I have not even touched the Kaffenback. Its sat there in the corner, unloved and un-thought of.
I dont know if I should build it up or sell it...I already dont love it so why will I love it when I build it up?? the fact it can only fit 32/33 tyres is a shame, maybe I want to go 650b? maybe I want 33s plus guards....Id like rim brakes tbf and bar end shifters.
Id like a surly cross check but there sizes are strange. Id love a Velo Orange Polyvalent...theyre super nice. But I would love a rim brake All City Space horse...
God im starting to sound like @Maj
Maybe I sell the Planet x before I even build it up...I think thats the answer.

I would say get one in a nice colour

sell it and buy a space..........er and a surly crosscheck (size 58 will fit you fine with a little coat hanger to boot)
-
• #219
You're can't find a rim brake version at all anymore.
I've been keeping my eye out for one!
-
• #220
Yeah a 58 would be fine. Let's see what we can do!

This thing is riding really nice right now..
Happy I've lost the red in favour for a black ritchey stem and hope headset.
Would like another bottle braze on for the seattube and then want to paint it..
