Was this with the black handle down to lock the lid, or were you cavalier enough to put it out unlocked? Suppose the foxes might know how to unlock it.
Also, coming up to that time, do I put the bins out now for Monday morning, would literally take 5 minutes, or live life on the ragged edge and hope I have enough time to do it tomorrow morning...

WELL. That'll teach me not to put the bins out the night before. In bed, heard the tinkle of glass - bin lorry was directly outside the house. Two of us ran down half-dressed, rushed out of the house with the recycling boxes and profuse apologies/thanks, and managed to spill the black bin bag in the process (yes it's an alternate fortnight today). All ok in the end though Bin Night fans, you'll be glad to hear.
Phew.

In central Amsterdam we are forbidden from putting our rubbish out until 6am, DESTROYING bin night. This morning was bin morning. At 9am I thought 'I'll just have a coffee', opened our window and two floors below the bin lorry was busy doing the next house along from ours. Cue me, two bin bags, 4 flights of stairs running after the lorry

@si_mon628 & @graunch parallel lives there, hope you've both learned from your experiences.
No bin night though Amsterdam, struck off my global bin night travel experience list.

No idea, I think she who does not do the bins was the last to deposit something within. I've carefully avoided administering any blame during this period of generally heightened household tension.

WELL. That'll teach me not to put the bins out the night before
A vivid memory of mine is the night following the home-birth of our 3rd child. My wife, newborn and I all in bed, deep in a lovely warm slumber, exhausted, relieved and loved up. This dreamy state is shattered at 5am when, half-awake I hear the sound of the bin lorry. Much like helping to deliver our daugher, primitive instinct took over and half naked I jumped out of bed, sprinted for the front door, made eye-contact with this week's refuse specialist and managed to drop the bin off in the nick of time. He could have fobbed me off, but gave me a wink and I think called me 'fella' and happily disposed of our stuff. We ended up naming our daughter after that bin man!

They are animals*. No bin night, pah. Twice a week collections though here in the centre. Residuals and cardboard. Everything else you have to walk to a recycling point. Lots and lots of bin night difficulties though. We have a million seagulls so if rubbish is out for long it is everywhere. Rubbish inspections and fines are not uncommon.. Neighbourly accusations rife.
(*they are not, I love it here) -

in many cultures, bin night can also be a cause of conflict

Foxes have these food bins sussed; everybody in our street has to put bricks on top of them.
Except me as Lewisham now have new fancy proper locking lids on replacement bins you have to order when the bin men throw your bin back into your garden and break it.

Bins were duly lifted this morning around 8, a dawn chorus to raise the spirits. Both ours and next doors’ grey waste dumpsters were left in our drive, so I returned theirs and then ours to the respective locations. I am the good neighbour.
Also, went cycling, met two bin lorries on the way around. the lanes, we all gave way and thumbed up.

When I was living in Ouagadougou (capital of Burkina Faso) bin night was an old lady with a donkey and a cart collecting the rubbish from all the houses in the neighbourhood. Once a month her young grandson came along who spoke French and took care of the payment. I think it was around 2000 west African franc a month, around £3. CSB I know

The bin men outside right now. I've turned off my light jazz to be able to hear better.

Ouagadougou sounds ace.
I changed my plans late last night, only put the general waste out. Figured the other crews would appreciate a lighter load especially as Green is the first collection for over a month.
No bin action yet, suggests they're having a busy round plus they'll be fighting the commuter traffic. Tough gig.

yup, they went out last night in the leafy burbs of Epsom and are being collected today, Thursday morning.
Stuff of nightmares. Hope the clear up isn't too painful.
