  • I also put o rings on my main board with MX Browns, a bit quieter for sure, but im not super convinced they make as much as a difference as on blues. I feel like I can notice the softening of the travel more on it, as they dont have the tactile click blue blues maybe? Im not 100% I like it so far, but it makes it better for confrence calls for sure.

  • I must get around to doing this, I'm sure my noisy keyboard pisses my colleagues right off.

That and all the other, many, annoying habits.

  • Bit of an odd question, I have a Keychron K4, and it does not have a scroll lock key, but I have somehow engaged scroll lock in Excel.
How do I turn it off?

(and how did I turn it on?!)

edit: I have turned it off with the on screen keyboard, but am still befuddled by how I turned it on!

  • Assuming Windows you can use the on-screen keyboard.

  • Just edited to say I have disabled it using the OSK.

No idea how I engaged it in the first place!

  • Do you still have this? I'm interested if you do....

  • Sorry. Long gone.

I rate it tho. I bought one of the last UK mk2 ones off amazon. Bit more and no discount vs buying direct, but no shipping so not too much more in the end.

Weirdly tho the mk2 seems to have less battery than my mk1.

Would really like them to do a full size slim UK one.

  • This is potentially not just a mechanical keyboard question. But....can anyone recommend a good portable keyboard? Ideally Bluetooth connectivity, preferably without a numpad to keep it back pack friendly.

  • We were just chatting about keyboards in the Mac thread, there's the Magic Keyboards (if you like white), and the Logitech MX Keys Mini was just suggested, might wanna take a look at that 👍

I have a Vortex Tab75, and it's good, alas not really that portable as it's compact, but quite heavy I think..

  • Also a lot of guys on here use Keychron ones - https://www.keychron.com/collections/keychron-wireless-keyboards

  • I second the Logitech MX Keys Mini recommendation!

  • Lenovo ThinkPad Trackpoint II is excellent.

  • I have a K4, it is 96% so bigger than you need, it is also pretty thick and not lightweight.
It is sturdy, connection via Bluetooth has ben faultless and battery life is good.

I assume the connection is similar in the rest of the range, so the slim ones might meet your needs?

  • I am not clear if they don't PC spec or is it just a Mac-tyoe layout?

  • It's both - I'm using it in standard UK ISO PC layout on a windows PC - it shows both sets of characters on the keyboard with mac on the left hand side of a key and PC on teh right hand side where there is a difference in key function.

I imagine it would work as a Mac layout keyboard automatically if connected via bluetooth to a mac.

  • thanks. having both mac/pc symbols is what put me off in the photos.

  • i was looking at these - I might give them a go.

  • Good keyboard = bdhu

    I'll spam some pictures:

My absolute favorite is my HHKB:

I rotate at work the HHKB with a standard TKL Realforce about once a year, the Realforce is the pure THOCK experience, I do love it:

This was my last project, an IBM beamspring restoring which took years, lazy me:

I have had a lots of 'artisan' keycaps, some I still have, like this one on my Cherry 11800:

    Lots of Click Clack keycaps!

    HHSK:

A beer themed artisan click clack keycap:

I would really suggest everyone working with computers 9 to 5 to invest in a good keyboard.

  • I should get out my IBM model M for some typing fun…

  • Definitely! It is a massive heavy clicky piece on the desktop though

  • great stuff, thanks for sharing 👏

  • 100% agree

  • I really like my Keychron K3 Ultra-slim, but would quite like a keyboard with a number pad.

The ideal would be a 96%, something like a slim version of K4 to keep things a bit more compact:

But a Keychron K5 / K5 SE would work if it had a UK keyboard:

Does anyone know of any other slim options with F-Keys and a number pad? Ideally bluetooth. Hotswapable keys would be a bonus.

    Cheers.

  • I know this is the mechanical keyboards thread, but if you just want a great slim bluetooth keyboard with function keys apple's big magic keyboard would probably be a good option..

  • What’s the word on a nice keyboard if my priorities as such. Gaming/editing/typing.

Numpad yay and nay, just like bigger keys overall.
