Little shiny twit landed on my desk while me and the eldest were doing home schooling so we grabbed our crayons and did some sketches.
I would have uploaded hers as well but she literally just drew a leopard while looking at a beetle somehow.

Like that a lot. It's a Rose Chafer btw, and early too - these smart beetles don't usually appear until early May in the UK.

Hmmm...
If this were some kind of Rorschach inkblot-esque psych test I’d be fucked.

More than ten minutes, long face, bit too Neanderthal etc. But probably the first self portrait I’ve done like this in over a decade.
Edit, for the sake of curiosity I banged it into photoshop to shorten the bottom half of the face, much better! I half wonder if the elongation is something to do with the angle at which I have the paper. Most likely a lack of practise, but it's nice to speculate.

Cheers, yeah I love rose chafers. I was fascinated by them as a kid and remember at one point genuinely thinking they were made of metal.

You clearly have an eye for this, that collection of sketches are fantastic

Many thanks. Full disclosure: illustration is part of ‘what I do’. I don’t do nearly enough drawing from life though, so i really enjoyed trying to capture this fidgety little dude.

Today's challenge, try and use mark making instead of shading to create tone.

will try and do one today. I went through a phase of ripping off r Crumb's line shading techniques. would be good to recapture something like that

10 min beeper went, down goes the pen.
Might keep going on it, it's quite satisfying doing these things. It's really getting me back into doodling/drawing etc.

Tried using my super phat mechanical pencil. I like sharp descriptive lines so this isn't working for me really. I think I'll keep it for big stuff.

Went slightly over 10 min

There's something about that sentence that is very special. Perhaps the critter was a leopard in a former life?

First attempt at 'drawing' since GCSEs. Awful but fun.

Always takes a while to do tone change well. 13 minn in the end, should have used a bigger pencil.
