  • I am so sorry to have to do this again, but we had a delivery to King's College Hospital on Friday and it was gratefully received. However, just got an email from the hospital asking if we could send more supplies as soon as possible as their cupboards are bare again.

I can't remember where I read it, but someone said now that we are all WFH, we can all donate our train / bus money to fundraising like this one.

OK, granted, most of us probably cycle anyway, but just saying...

Please donate if you can, share far and wide.

    Thanks

  • Bikeworks is now delivering Medicine and food to vulnerable people in East and West London

We are working with orgs with supplies and who know the people that need stuff. Food Banks, Restaurants and Pharmacies.

If you know of a group who would benefit from this free service in Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Islington, Kensington & chelsea, and Hammersmith & Fulham. Get in touch.

We expect to grow this service over the next few weeks and will need additional riders who can handle a cargo bike, ideally with a DBS check. If you can help message me.

    Thanks

  • Blood donor registered... thankfully they have a major surge in support.

  • Good evening all, I have been busy and things are happening.

Take a look at my update, spare another few quid if you can?

  • With Nursem, you buy a handcream or handwash, and they supply a month's worth to someone in the NHS. Worth doing for friends/family in the NHS and then someone who you'll never meet benefits too
Can read the pledge here https://www.nursem.co.uk/pages/our-story

  • I think this was mentioned in an NHS England email I got last week.

    Good work @ExTra

  • Thanks, but it was probaby the Feed the NHS one which was started by a lot of famour people, not little old me.. :-)

  • I know a fair number of people on here signed up for the NHS volunteer thing, but they still seem to be having trouble scaling up. Meanwhile, local community aid groups have been filling the gap in most London boroughs.

Lambeth Mutual Aid has been useful to some of the organisations in my area and seems to be reasonably well organised (also has a Facebook group). It's also entirely unofficial, so at your own risk and use your own judgement.

If you're in Lambeth, have a car or cargo bike and can spare time between 11am and 2pm on any of Mon-Sat, Black Prince Trust are running a food box delivery service to vulnerable people. Can vouch for the quality of the service they're running. If you would like to help out, the contact details for Jason (the community manager) are on their "Contact us" page.

  • Also potentially useful for volunteers: free-of-charge DBS check

  • If you're in Lambeth, have a car or cargo bike and can spare time between 11am and 2pm on any of Mon-Sat, Black Prince Trust are running a food box delivery service to vulnerable people.

And are short on delivery volunteers the next few days, so if you're available, https://chat.whatsapp.com/CFfSWwHgvJL3tnmbwlL4HH

  • Thanks for that, I just dropped them a message!

  • Cycling UK is offering 3 months free membership to health and social care workers, especially useful for anyone deciding to cycle to work during this time:

  • Any got a spare front wheel for a key worker? Noting to do with me but he’d just posted in our mutual aid group (Lambeth) saying his got stolen outside of the hospital.

Let me now and I’ll hock you up.

Also, isn’t there is a thread dedicated for bikes / bikes parts for key workers?

  • Hey, chatting to him now. Think he's going to pop round later for an old spare I have knocking around.

  • How do you know who I was referring to? 🤣

    Anyhow, cheers!

Stealing is bad as it is, stealing from outside of a hospital when the chances are these bikes are used by those who might save your life is 1000 times worse...

  • I'm on the Lambeth mutual aid group - saw that a link had been posted to this thread. Put 2 + together.

Nice guy, happily took an old dust-collecting wheel away with him.

  • hi all, i’m looking to start a mentoring scheme for 5 children on my estate and need help how to set this up.

  • please help, there’s two kids on my estate who haven’t been able to access school online/emailed resources at all since the crisis, or heard from any teachers. one is using his mum’s phone with a cracked screen. i currently need two laptops with webcams and windows

  • If any of you live in Lambeth or Wimbledon and have a car or a cargo bike, Streets Kitchen are supplying food to three hotels in Lambeth where homeless people are staying in the rooms. At the moment they're using the kitchen in one Clapham hotel to do the cooking and one of the other hotels is close by, so they need delivery volunteers for two tasks:

    1. Getting supplies (usually from Wimbledon) to the Belvedere hotel (by Clapham Common) where the cooking is done.
    2. Transporting prepared food from the Belvedere to the OYO hotel in Camberwell.

The first job is normally in the morning, the second at around 5:30pm. The OYO delivery is easy in a cargo bike, but the morning deliveries can more substantial since OYO only holds one quarter of the recipients. They're struggling to find enough delivery people for the whole week. If you do have the transport capability and the time, the link above is the best place to contact them and they'd be delighted to hear from you even if you could only make one delivery a week.

  • Bikes For NHS crowdfunder

My free bike project has reached 27 bikes, all donated in various states of disrepair, and fixed up in my workshop. I just did my accounts for the past six months, and it's cost around £60 per bike. This includes everything from delivery (via Pedal Me cargo bike), tyres, tubes, cables, saddles etc etc and for a few people I have bought lights and locks.

The crowdfunder has nearly covered what I've spent so far (just giving take around 10%). But I'd like to get more bikes to more people, currently 6 on the waiting list, I have the bikes but not the cash for parts. Anything you can spare will make a difference. Thanks!
