What happened to ‘stop, look, listen’?
Irrelevant. Assume as a rider/driver that people don't stop, look, and listen. (Why should they?)
The drivers/riders of vehicles with more momentum - ie more likely to cause harm, have more responsibility to look out for walkers/joggers.
As the Highway Code says: ride at the speed to suit the conditions

It’s irrelevant to expect people to look before crossing the road?
I already said that as a driver I do, but if they don’t, it’s increasing the chances of an inevitable accident.
-
• #979
Just assume they hadn't looked. Your responsibility as a driver is to reduce the chance of 'an inevitable accident', aka as 'an avoidable collision' .

In other news, i was allowed outside again after 7 weeks of lockdown. Hell yeah, made the most out of it with 127km and the Monte Grappa, adding to a total of just over 1900m elevation.

Yeah there’s plenty of good riding available here. Direction of Trento also offers some great options.

This perfect village of Charlton in the South Downs was on my route yesterday. It was as noisy as hell! The sheep in the fields behind the houses were making a right fuss I didn’t go and take a look but perhaps they were separated from their lambs.

NSPCC is down with the cyclists during Corona and encouraging involvement. They’re really struggling to deliver all their services to children, esp Childline, which is inundated with calls and can’t be done remotely. There’s a Strava group and everything.

I have just driven to my office to collect a few bits.
Imagine my surprise to encounter 3 full kit wankers cycling through the Blackwall tunnel.
They must have proper shit themselves.
-
• #990
I cycled through the blackwall tunnel once when I was young and foolish. It was terrifying.
-
• #991
They must have proper shit themselves
Why?
We're you speeding? Could the have felt threatened? -
• #992
I think they would have felt very threatened by the PA announcements warning all the drivers that some idiots were cycling through the tunnel. They didn't exactly slip through unnoticed.

We're still in lock down in France, this thread gives me hope.
The popo had a field day out of this, extensive use of drones to patrol beauty spots,
helicopters as well,
they still need bikes on the ground to collar people.
Copter only around on the week end in my parts. Some police helplines were overwhelmed by good citizens grassing walkers and other criminals.
General trafic speed went up,
speed traps registering unsual numbers of very excessive speeds,
road deaths were expected to fall dramatically in line with drastically reduced traffic,
it sadly didn't happen. -

I did that 20 years ago by accident on my first big explore of London.
I also led 10 cyclists over the QEII crossing in Dartford, at night.
Great view up there.. -

Which reminds me, when I was a courier we used to use the Limehouse Link and the Westway to cut heaps of time off a run.
Pretty lucky I was never caught tbh.No way I'd pull that shit these days.
-
• #996
I accidentally used the Limehouse Link several years ago, the pollution down there was way scarier than the actual cars.

Isn't one of those tunnels on Ride London? I'm always amazed that anyone would cycle through Rotherhite.
-
• #998
Some years they have closed the Blackwall Tunnel for people parked at the O2 to ride through.
You also get to ride through the tunnels at Hyde Park corner and Limehouse
-
• #999
I use Rotherhithe pretty regularly without incident. Of the very few people who use it, most use the footpath, but as there’s a 20mph limit, cycling in the carriageway doesn’t seem to piss off the drivers.
Have also used Limehouse Link a few times, also without issue.

Stopping drivers from using one of these easy London Thames crossing would really be good for walkers/riders to use and avoid Greenwich and foot tunnel where physical distancing must be difficult
Second division lay-by, near Ipsden (as you asked)
