I do think @SwissChap is interpreting our opinions slightly different to how we are intending. I've not intentionally commented on our right to do anything. I do feel privileged to live in a country that is permitting me to ride a bike (for now) though.

That is a really bad comparison and you know it.

There really is a strong hint of libertarianism in this thread.

Can everyone stop equating cautious public health measures with authoritarianism please?
You would say that though.
I bet you work for them. -

Thanks, you've blown my cover, Dom's crying

Did you align the "Crank it up" logo from the flywheel before taking the picture or is it just coincidence?
-
• #512
Of course, Im a photographer so can’t resist. :)
-
• #513
The first sentence is still valid though.
-
• #514
No, not really. The two things are not mutually exclusive, and as the example of Hungary shows, the situation absolutely does lend itself to authoritarians to grab more power.
Now I'm not claiming this is currently happening in the UK, and I've said before that I completely agree with the current restrictions in place here, but pretending no one in their right mind could possibly make that connection is being a bit naive.

You sound awfully similar in opinions to my friend George in St Gallen. Are you called George?
-
• #516
I am not, and I resent the idea that I might be from St Gallen!
-
• #517
Honestly, the gall some people have ... :)

• #518
Haha, there is a song title for everything :D

I’m sorry if this lowers the tone a bit, but we have just been out on the tandem.

I', more conscious of giving people room and trying to not have to runny a nose (not an easy thin g when it';s cold sometimes.) I was thinking of going into central London sometime this week so will keep go the cable street/tower bridge super highway and go on the roads via Whitechapel. Looks lovely and empty, rather looking forward to it...

Had a nice zoom call with a friend of mine who is a mountain guide in Zermatt.
I was curious to know what lockdown is like there given that the ski resort and lifts are obviously closed and them having an above average number of elite mountain athletes who tend to go on long cross country skis training sessions most days.
In theory, these guides and athletes could be exercising away from home with zero risk to others. Risk of accident requiring rescue on a training ski is virtually zero, the same as cycling in London.
According to Jean Paul, nobody is questioning or challenging the lockdown rules. They aren't running. They aren't climbing. The mountains are deserted. Everybody is staying at home and using turbos or treadmills where possible.
Must say, I was expecting people to be out and about a bit more. Those guys must be going fucking loopy. They live outdoors. It's a huge change to their way of life
Ha. This.
And a lot this:
