Yea I totally agree re the stem, its just as your customers are your enemies and you have to outplay them
Re zero setback, the first owner was so kind to make that investment as it also came with 20mm
As stated somewhere above, besides the price it was the fact that the seller did many upgrade I would have done, that made me buy this thing out of nowhere overnight basically
Do you run disc (albeit they are dead)? Got a pic?

I might have a sl7 top cap if you want
I'm in vacations dm me next week if you're interested

Ha! Funnily enough, I'm in the garage right now having a breakdown trying sort the rear disc flat mount tab... I'll get a pic once its re-assembled

@Elpolo many thanks that would be great - do you mean the plastic cover (which covers all the screws) or the actual top cap to tension the headset bearings?
@TotalShanner haha sounds complicated. Still not sure when I will have my hands on discs. Now with the direct mount i am very happy (other than classic single bolt brakes), leaving rim wear as the last argument in favour of discs
On another note, I briefly took some pics outside:

I mean the actual aluminium top cap
I can probably find the plastic cover too
-
• #382
That would be awesome
Please DM me if you found both and what you want for it
Merci Beaucoup 🙏🏼

So you want the "hidden bolts" cap ?
'cause there is an other sl7 stem cap, with two holes as an acces to bolt and it can be used with every headset cap and even spacer if you have extra steerer tube. This is the one generally used by the teams

Here you can see the two versions

It’s the part on the far left in the image above that I was thinking off.
But now I’m starting to think it’s maybe best to leave it off. This Allez seems to have an additional cover on it which I’m not sure really looks that great...

Yeah with the classic round headset dust cap and spacers i will definitely file that cover round on the lower left corner
In the above pic you can see the lil hook hanging off the cover which on a SL 7 you would click into your square spacer stack

Yeah, I was thinking a bit of careful work with a dremel/file could get nicer lines.
I’d initially thought that there was a top cap part that was just the top section that I’ve circled, but it seems that it doesn’t exist? They all come over the back side over the bolts?

Re your first question: Yes and no.
To use the closed cover (on the right of the “open” cover you highlighted), you need to buy a specific SL7 top cap.
This top cap, however is NOT part of the spacer/cover set. I needed to google an hour and compare photos and shit to understand and to track down the part number.
And then, funny enough, it isnt available in any German online shop, so you have to research Specialized retail dealers and email them. And guess how keen they are to organise you a €3 bit :-DD
This special top cap has a recess machined in around the head of the bolt where you clip in the closed cover
As I said initially, its freaking nuclear science from a customer’s perspective which drives me mad (but which on the other hand came as no surprise as I was used to this with my allez sprint already)

I had considered the SL6/tarmac stems for my SL6, but ended up going for the S Works SL stem (traditional shape) as it comes in -12 also.
I didn’t like the extra lump for internal cable routing.

The previous owner also had the classic sl mounted but it was too short and only 6 deg, so i had to switch anyway
What do you mean by extra lump? The sl7 stem itself is fairly clean

Very strong saddle to bar drop! 😂

That’s just the rear wheel standing on the grass 🌝

I meant with the matching headset cover. The stem without doesn’t look too bad, though the cutout makes it seem incomplete.
Not a huge amount of choice when it comes to -12 stems.

Yea i totally agree.
I will try to figure it out with the official covers and if not, happy to have a matte, modern looking s-works stem for an okay-ish price (90€)

Smart workaround (at a savage price) I will definitely look into this.
Maybe this is the time for my first 3D print attempt 🧐
Awesome bike and build you have there. Finally someone else with an appropriate saddle-to-bar-drop 😌

Speaking of which…
I just sloppily compared my SL6 to my (ex-) caad with horizontal and its amazing to see how much seatpost the sloping top tube exposes
Also added some black reflective stickers for early ride safety

Thanks!
I saw it originally on the Weightweenies forum (on the Allez Sprint thread). There’s a print file going round which these are based off of for free so maybe you could send it to a printer and get done for a bit cheaper?
£30 does seem a bit much!
Nah, I don't think its particularly hard to find, just ridiculously over priced and proprietary shape :( I don't see them come up second hand very often though.
My sl6 came with 20mm stock, so I'd assumed that they all came with 20mm as standard. I ran zero offset on my old bike and just want to experiment with running it on my sl6. Don't want to spend £140 on a new post only to find that it doesn't work for me...
Pretty ridiculous that a £150 stem doesn't come with the top cap that its designed for. There's maybe a chance someone has 3d printed some!
