  • The blue on the R3000 is so nice, I think its my all time favourite. Been looking for one in 58cm for a good while.

  • @Elpolo @TotalShanner

    Good question to be honest.

In an ideal world I would go weight-weenie-esque on the Saeco and HH on the R3000.

But since I have limited myself to only spend bike money on bike projects back in 2020, I will most likely build up one of them (which one?!?!?! Tend to do blue)

Was thinking full enve with DA 9100…

The color “Blu tinted clear (gloss) (BLU)” 😵‍💫is really the perfect addition to the team saeco gloss

@jono84 yeah the full carbon ones look pretty amazing. Cant wait to polish them up properly and take some pics

  • The dura ace 7800 isn't the most hh and modern looking groupset but he is certainly the smoothest shimano dura ace ever. Incredible to use

If I was you Ill do a "budget" 7800 build with nice wheels, stem, bar and seatpost on one of them and fullhh on the other

But i'm a dura ace 7800 fan so i'm biased

  • 9100 is dull, go for 9000

    At least for the cranks

  • The only correct answer is Cannondale proprietary cranks. :)
At least the Saeco has a BB30 so you can get the old silver SI set.

    edit: also dibs if 54

  • Yea I think SISL (black) would be nice

@LeMesjeu In fact, the saeco came with the silver SI but for some reason I cant handle black or two-tone cranks on dark frames 🧐

  • Re Saceo: Still trying to figure out what the differences are between the replica and the R5000, if any (and which one I own?) 🧐

Fork decals are sideways which none of the attached has 😵‍💫

Also why does the saeco sport a BB30 and the R3000 BSA instead?

  • Have you had the BB out to look at the shell?

  • Team replica had Record vs. DA on R5000, same frame I assume.

may have been sold as a frameset or merely catalog inconsistencies. 🕵️

  • Yup, this must be it! Awesome

Didn’t notice that one the frameset the decals were different (and it makes no freakin sense lol)

  • Alright,

Took my time to thoroughly inspect the R3000 frameset and components.

    Pretty disappointed afterwards:

    • DA 7800 DS Crank broken (third one i‘ve seen so definitely bad materials/engineering)
    • DA 7800 ST left broken (or at least does not work)
    • Cannondale Carbon seat post broken (tightened too hard)
    • Frame has the infamous under-the-paint corrosion plus a ding in the NDS SS

Will update once I have recovered from this lil shock

Frame still looks good in general but there‘s a slight gap between „you‘ll receive an as good as new bike“ and this lol.

    Pretty light tho!

  • Buying sight unseen is a gamble, but that is also what makes it exciting.

I'd hhrb the shit out of it instead.

Absolutely. I mean I took that into consideration plus, financially, it will be bearable I think

    Sounds about right 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

  • Little bit of an update:

While I am still trying to get some money back on the R3000 I have already flipped 2/3 of the parts stripped off of both bikes.

I might attend a nice 140km tour with friends in early September so I would ideally have one bike ready until then.

I have picked up a crankset for a very decent price just yesterday (pics to come) and I was wondering if there are any arguments against these chainrings (look nice, reasonably priced, not too heavy)?

    Many thanks for your thoughts

  • stronglight chainrings are good quality imo, nothing wrong with them

  • Many thanks!

Anyone knows if I can use this

    https://r2-bike.com/ROTOR-Bottom-Bracket-BB30-BSA

To use a BB30 crank in the R3000 (which has BSA bb shell)?

  • you won't be able to use a bb30 crankset in a bsa, unless it is a longer PF30 one.

  • Because the axle would be too short?

    😕

  • What's the crank?

  • This (coz decals (and price)):

@glws ok thanks for intervening then. Still dont understand why both frames use different bbs tho

  • I must be reading something wrong, but here's a 30mm Easton crankset in my CAAD5 with BSA bb (in fact, the exact Rotor one posted above).

  • You can fit 30mm cranks
Just not BB30 as they're too short. There are other 30mm standards that are not BB30

With the exception of some Sram 22 cranks which can fit with the preload adjuster removed.

  • it's a tough one, as we said above, bb30 spindles will only go into bb30 shells (bb30, OSBB specialized)

  • Thanks for clarifying. Glad I didn't know all this when I made my modifications. Ignorance is bliss. Still happy my mods worked out.
@e54 trying to read up led me to this bikerumor article, which (I think) explains the points made above - https://bikerumor.com/aasq-45-how-can-i-fit-a-bb30-crank-in-a-threaded-bsa-frame/
