Work acquaintance Prof Mervyn Singer has Mercedes F1 engineers making him mini CPAP machines with UCL medical engineering team-designed in 4 days. They also want to work on the CFD inside your standard tube attaching said machine to facemasks to improve the air flow/efficiency.

CPAP such a better solution to invasive drug support-heavy ventilators
Amazing the things we learn
Will we remember them when capitalists try to take back this narrative?

It's just not feasible.

What do you mean by this? It’s not really anything to do with capitalism - for some reason COVID affects the lungs differently to other pneumonias (which would normally require ventilation in ITU) and CPAP (which wouldn’t normally be helpful in these situations) actually provides the support needed. It was unexpected - there’s a good article on EMCRIT about it.

The PPE situation in the NHS is so fucking disgraceful.

This stuff is something that should be stockpiled sky high. It's not exactly expensive (in the scale).
I really hope the government are held accountable for their failures. There must be an independent enquiry and consequences.

Don’t forget who is deciding what ‘fake news’ is. Would you give Trump the power to sentence those who he thinks spread ‘fake news’?

No chance. He is ahead in polls. There is no opposition. It will be like the Russia report or the islamophobia enquiry or grenfell.

Very much matches my experience of working in the NHS over the last 20 years. Even if CV 19 had not happened the NHS was facing a crisis.

As Andrew Rawnsley pointed out in the Observer on Sunday, polls always reflect well on a government during the time of crisis. Gordon Brown had a huge boost in popularity (from a low base) during the 2008 financial crisis. That boost soon ebbs away as normality returns, especially if the government are seen to have handled things badly.

And Brown actually did the right thing and stopped the banking system collapsing. He was out of office within two years.
