  • Wasn't there a case of a reinfection reported in Japan? So, unless that was bogus (I'm not really following the news) then it's not the case.

One but not clear what exactly happened there and one case in a million??

  • I have no issues with avoiding contact, it's the 'working from home' thing I'm struggling with.

  • They really should get someone else to do the talking. Bafoon.

    Edit: on queue

  • Are they telling pubs/restaurants to stay closed? Or just telling us not to go to them?

  • he's doesn't want to say " ban " does he, that wouldn't be popular
he's leaving it in a grey area

  • Friends in Canada (also work in bike shop) now feeling the pinch as they’re cutting hours. And already struggling.

  • Doesn't seem real does it?

  • Now this guy is a leader. Good speech

  • We're gathered around the radio listening to it, akin to scenes seen in ww2 films

  • ahem

  • Are you on the mend?

  • Question to the audience. Would there be any legal implications for the govt putting in an official ban on places opening, for example would they be able to claim loss of earnings or the like?

  • What are you listening to? They better not be shutting pubs.

    Time to start homebrewing

  • That's not quite true. And many people need to leave said couch to deliver the services required. Not everyone has the WFH luxury.

  • What are you listening to? They better not be shutting pubs.

PM Daily update, the first one.

  • Got it.

Lucky I got my two day bender in on the weekend I guess.

  • This feels like a very clever thing... stoke a bit of fear, advise people not to go to theatres, pubs and restaurants... and this withdraws the audience from those venues and effectively shuts them down without an emergency order doing so.

  • Nothing Johnson is saying is bad or problematic (as I've been hearing it). But simply by being him, it comes off as BS. He has a way of waffling which reads like he's avoiding being transparent, and inherently lacks trust (for good reason). It's such a shame he's our fucking PM.

  • Utter cowardice in the face of a serious threat to most people in the country. Why won't he use executive power to actually implement these things? Terrified of being held accountable for limiting people's freedoms with the law and putting business in a tight spot by forcing them to close. Unbelievable

  • Its a situation where you need to wait till the right time. These things i will come. But they cannot simply implement them now. They have to wait for the right moment.

  • If you're advising people not to go out but not attempting to enforce it, aren't you killing the hospitality industry anyhow, whilst denying them any recourse to e.g. insurance?

  • He (BJ) said there will be cash for them.

  • Norwegian Air is cancelling 85% of flights, and laying off 90% of staff.

This is neat... by doing this every single person can get unemployment benefit immediately.

Then when the situation has passed, you hire everyone back.

I suspect that this is how to do it... but businesses still need to borrow at low rates to pay for premises, etc in the meantime.

  • Yeh it’s a bit crap for all of those people and businesses

  • Norwegian Air is cancelling 85% of flights, and laying off 90% of staff

Hmm, maybe the shortish-term pains of coronavirus will long term save the planet?
