This feels like a very clever thing... stoke a bit of fear, advise people not to go to theatres, pubs and restaurants... and this withdraws the audience from those venues and effectively shuts them down without an emergency order doing so.

Nothing Johnson is saying is bad or problematic (as I've been hearing it). But simply by being him, it comes off as BS. He has a way of waffling which reads like he's avoiding being transparent, and inherently lacks trust (for good reason). It's such a shame he's our fucking PM.

Utter cowardice in the face of a serious threat to most people in the country. Why won't he use executive power to actually implement these things? Terrified of being held accountable for limiting people's freedoms with the law and putting business in a tight spot by forcing them to close. Unbelievable

Its a situation where you need to wait till the right time. These things i will come. But they cannot simply implement them now. They have to wait for the right moment.

If you're advising people not to go out but not attempting to enforce it, aren't you killing the hospitality industry anyhow, whilst denying them any recourse to e.g. insurance?

This is neat... by doing this every single person can get unemployment benefit immediately.

Then when the situation has passed, you hire everyone back.

I suspect that this is how to do it... but businesses still need to borrow at low rates to pay for premises, etc in the meantime.
