A friend of mine, who works for a large company, was doing a site visit of a petro chemical plant in Germany last week. To protect operations, inspectors are COVID tested regularly. There was an outbreak in his team and they all tested positive.
There's a 5 day isolation requirement for positive tests in Germany so they all had to stay in their hotels. Hadn't realised that this was still a thing anywhere in Europe.

Anyone under 50, not high risk and had an email inviting you to book a covid vaccination? I had one last week but when I book it asks if you are over 50 or high risk (i am neither but 50 in Jan)

I think you get put on the list if you turn 50 by March next year - is there either small print, or a secondary question when you say you're not 50 yet?

I'm in Singapore now but following the news in Shanghai closely (as much as I can - I find it really upsetting). Friends of friends were arrested yesterday. The protests are continuing today. New covid restrictions announced today.

Thanks for that, I will try and book one up
I got a booster a few weeks ago by going with my wife to have her flu jab. I was sitting there minding my own business, having decided not to try to blag one, but they wouldn't let me say no ...
- Have you had your booster?
- No, I'm not eligible yet
- You're not 50? [Cheek!] Are you 50 by March?
- No
- Would you like it?
- Well, yes, but I'm pretty sure I'm not eligible
- Go and see the nurse. She'll sort you out. She'll find a way.
Sure enough ...
- Are you sure you're not 50? [!!!]
- Um ...
- 50 by March?
- No, but, um, my mother's quite elderly
- Do you live with her?
- No, but ...
- Are you her carer?
- Er, no, um, I suppose I provide some care
- That'll do. Do you know your NHS number?
They didn't ask, and I didn't say, that any care I offer my mother is by phone, from 400 miles away. (Though I have been to stay with her twice since getting the jab, and I didn't feel remotely guilty anyway.)
- Have you had your booster?

I had my monthly catch up with a team of engineers I work with in Chengdu yesterday. I didn't want to ask them anything too invasive so just asked is everybody ok?
They basically answered "yes but its pretty bad in places". First time they've ever said anything vaguely negative about their circumstances in the last two years or so I've been working with them.

Just had the jab, I got quite a grilling for not being 50! I said I had 2 txt invites and 3 email invites and they decided to give it to me.

Well I’ve got Covid for the first time. On about day 4 and it’s just moved onto my lungs. Feel shite. Not even been able to rest up because I’ve got a couple of young kids to look after and now I think the youngest has got it as well.

Sad to hear this.
Hope you (eventually) get over it without any lingering Long Covid. -

Same dude, so hard to just writhe on a bed in peace when you’ve got obligations like that, mine are feral too so I can’t just leave them to read comics.
I’m definitely getting the new variant symptom; profuse night sweats, waking up in a puddle of my own making

Yeah it’s an omicron ba.5 thing. I don’t even have much of a temperature, no fever or shakes, just profuse sweating

Last 24 hours turned into a bit of a rollercoaster. 2-3 hours after I posted here I started struggling to get any air through my lungs. Nearly blacked out but made it to the sofa where I was kind of hovering at that point where I was half conscious but about to black out. Pins and needles in fingers, tunnel vision and numb face. Was about to head to hospital. After an hour or so it started clearing, then later I was up and about and able to cook dinner for the family. Slept most of the night last night, woke up this morning feeling mostly post-viral and completely fine today.
What. The fuck.

Parents finally caught it, but they are not too bad. Like a cold with shivers.
My dad, age=old, was wiped out by both in one day. Dude doing mine said “come back next week for flu. It’s fine to have both, no dramas, just wipes you out for a day or two” (paraphrasing anectdata)
