  • So the GF has been texted, so far 4 times, by the test and trace people to isolate for 3 days. Odd thing is I haven't had anything, yet we have been out to the same place (an all you can eat buffet). There are case in her school, as mention before, but no others in the bubble have had a text telling them to isolate.

Even though home test have come back negative for both of us, am thinking of isolating for the same time. What you guys think?

  • I agree but not all users are the same.

    That's public health for you.

I don't think the hard antivaxxers can be reasoned out of a position that they didn't reason themselves into.

Some people on the fence may not take the vaccine if they think this is government overreach.

Of course if more people DO take it now, it works out. But long term it can lead to trust issues.

It's all not so easy as we don't all see the world the same way.

  • Maybe a stupid question, but did you have your bluetooth turned on? I sometimes forget.

  • So the GF has been texted, so far 4 times, by the test and trace people

How do you know the text messages weren't spoofed?

  • England’s Covid unlocking is threat to world, say 1,200 scientists

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jul/16/englands-covid-unlocking-a-threat-to-the-world-experts-say

Boris Johnson’s plan to lift virtually all of England’s pandemic restrictions on Monday is a threat to the world and provides fertile ground for the emergence of vaccine-resistant variants, international experts say.

  • It seems NHS Test and Trace don't have a number for the public to call them, you have to trust their CLI. So anyone that can spoof CLI can call random people and ask for all sorts of personal details with no verification. Fantastic.

  • Not a stupid question, gf and I don't have bluetooth turned on.

@jellybaby texts look genuine and not asking for any other details.

  • Experts, soothsayers and astrologers are all in much the same category....Rolling eyes emoji.

  • you have to trust their CLI

Command line interface? Seems an unnecessarily painful way to communicate with the NHS

  • Calling Line Identification. One of the fields in the PSTN signaling system which because it was designed by a bunch of incumbent old boys that all knew and trusted each other has no verification of anything.

  • Easier for people to dodge the call if "Track and Trace" pops up?

  • N=1 example which could cause me, if I didn’t have a logical brain, to believe the vaccine is worse. I got Covid early in the first wave (confirmed by positive antibody test when picked up for random testing a few months later). Had a fever for one night, ‘bad cold’ symptoms for four days, then smell and taste went for 10 days. 14 days after first symptoms I was back on the bike and then had one of my best years of riding ever, so no long-term effects as far as I could tell.

7.5 weeks ago I had my first Moderna jab. Since then I have been ill for a combined period of 4 weeks on three separate occasions. This could lead me to deduce something about the jab if it wasn’t for the fact that each period of illness followed my daughter bringing home an illness from childcare (each time the whole family got PCR tests which were negative so I think the standard viruses are also now having a field day as society reopens). I have my second jab booked this Sunday and am looking forward to having it, however if I was a simpler soul I can see how I would have gone Jab+Illnesses=Bad and become a lot more hesitant about taking the second shot.

Not sure how unique or not my experience is, but humans love finding patterns in things so I would worry about those who might have an experience like mine and identify causality where there is none.

  • My covid experience was different, still not convinced that the covid was the issue but I was coughing hard enough to bring up blood, high enough blood pressure for the hosiptal to suspect I had had a heart attack! Low sats and feel very out of breath and tired for a few weeks. While blood glucose levels all over the place.

Pfizer jab firstly caused a temperature for 48 hours and general tiredness. While the second jab did nothing.

  • They present a well known CLI which my phone looks up in some database somewhere and displays NHS Track and Trace. You can call that number and you get a recorded message telling you to answer calls from it.

  • Fucks sake:

Off to France next week. Hopefully France won’t reciprocate and impose quarantine on arrivals because of the Delfa variant.

  • Last time I checked France has a ul quaranteen, unless its been lifted in past few weeks , unless double vax

    yup

  • France considers fully vaxxed if you’ve been positive for Covid and had one Vaccine, which we have had.
We’re getting second vaccine tomorrow, with plenty of time to be double vaxxed for our return.

Leaving in a week and staying for a month, but means we’ll have to allow time to quarantine before our daughter goes back to school.

Means having to now pay for a test to release for both of us, and isolate for at least 5 days.

  • That assumes things haven't changed 3 times in 5 weeks.

  • And also that none of us get contact traced before we go, or France changes entry requirements in the next week.

    Pretty annoying.

  • Things will be totally different in 2 let alone 6 weeks!

  • I’m pretty terrified at the prospect of what happening in the next two weeks that is 100% avoidable.

  • Ha, yeah. Caller Line Identity in this context I assume

  • English schools out the end of next week.

  • Had my second vaccine this week. Not sure if I had any side effects (flood alert at 5am and sorting things out/helping neighbours was a distraction) but interestingly they’re offering mix and match here (Luxembourg) now.

First dose was AZ and the second Pfizer. Doctor reckoned it would give better immunity than both AZ or Pfizer.
