  • But she did. She followed the rules, got tested, yada yada. The expectation when booking her trip was the train would be limited capacity and her journey would be relatively safe. Late announcement, panic created, rush of bookings, train company for some reason doesn't limit seats, carnage ensues. I mean, she could be totally bullshitting and was one who booked the thing last minute and you could argue that travelling wasn't necessary in the first place but still.

  • he is more interested in being loved than governing

He’s spreading the wealth. Our collective wealth. To his buddies and sponsors. That’s the only thing he seems competent at or truly preoccupied about. As for the rest, he simply doesn’t measure up.

Someone in Parliament needs to get their act together and replace this guy, but those few who are in position to lead are too afraid to do it.

  • Technically she shouldn’t have been going into another household at all on the 19th anyway as London was tier 3?

I understand the her plight and everyone else’s. The desperate need to see loved ones is real.

  • If the train was on fire would she still have boarded?

  • I do also think the train companies are at fault.

  • Yeah. I don't get the big rush to go last night.

Anyone leaving a Tier 3 area before midnight was breaking the rules because you weren't allowed to leave a Tier 3 area and stay overnight before 23 December, which was then reduced to not at all. It wasn't a technicality, so she doesn't have a leg to stand on really.

My upstairs neighbour went early last night following the same 'get out before Tier 4' thinking. What this will result in is a greater risk of Covid spread because the longer you spend inside / living with someone the more likely you are to spread it.

If you're going to break the rules there's really no rush.

  • Not sure. I don't really follow the rule changes. I just stay the fuck away from everyone.

  • If the train was on fire would the train company have allowed boarding?

  • If she was already breaking the rules then I'm less inclined to show sympathy. But I'm sure everyone on that train in their minds had justified their decision.

I wonder how many people rocked up and thought "fuck that" and went back home?

  • The last ‘exodus’ was going from no restrictions to full lockdown so can understand it better.

99% of the people travelling today would be as in breach of the rules yesterday as they would be travelling on the 23rd or 24th.

Perhaps the ‘can’t catch us all if we all do it’ mentality?

  • So I hear this dad says: no way do I want to see my son coming to visit from London.

  • I want to know how the EMR ticket system works. You can't just turn up and get a ticket if the seat limit has been reached can you ?
    Season ticket holders ?

  • You can still buy tickets, you just have to stand.

  • One for @ltc - The Tier Drop Explodes

  • Tiers on my pillow

  • Something that confuses me is the constant North-South divide, ‘selfish southerners travelling up to the north at Christmas’ thing I keep reading. Well they’re clearly not southerners are they if they’re travelling up north to go home for the next week. The problem isn’t southerners having a jolly up to the lakes, it’s your neighbour’s kid who you should be having issue with.

  • If they've been living and working in London for 20 years but head to their parents house for Christmas and maybe a birthday, they're probably not that Northern, especially if their parents moved from the south east to a retirement cottage in the lakes (a lot of baseless assumptions I know)
I'd imagine most people of the North that are annoyed are more on about where someone lives at the moment, especially when there are places down south that have been tier 2 with a higher R rate than many tier 3 Northern places for the last month and now a bunch of those people are heading out to mix things up a bit.

  • "When I made my travel plans I did so assuming there would be strict limits on the number of tickets available to ensure social distancing.
"It was only when the queues formed at the barriers it became clear that too many tickets had been sold. The risk here is in the getting from point A to B.
"Of course we could have all turned around and gone home when we realised what the train companies had done, and clearly we didn't so must take personal responsibility there."

Passengers on one train were told that social distancing “will not be possible” due to the volume of people on board, and those that felt “uncomfortable” should not stay on the train.

  • It does leave a slightly bitter taste considering people in London have been able to enjoy the very widely flouted tier 2 restrictions whilst us up north have been locked down for months. It’s the government we should be blaming though and not each other.

  • Oxford m40 services was packed last night with families exchanging presents.

  • Yeah it’s all the ‘southerners’ flouting the tier 2 rules, those up north in tier 2 have kept in good line https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/revellers-tier-2-hit-town-23191708

  • What you on about mate?, I never said southerners did I and I’m sure the rules are widely flouted in tier 2 throughout, we just haven’t had the chance to do it. You seem the be the one with the problem here.

  • There are dickheads everywhere, we get that, and I agree blame the government, blame the dickheads a bit, don't blame each other unless you're a dickhead.
