  • I just don't get it. Why on earth would they wait months to bring this in?

I only found out because my skinsuit maker emailed me about the fact they also make masks which are now compulsory in shops. Are they compulsory in pubs too? Because it seems all kinds of crack smoking lunacy is going on in this government.

  • I have seen the beautiful mane. It took me back to the fenland fashions of my youth.

  • Don't be silly, you couldn't possibly drink ale through a straw 🤪

It's definitely all badly coordinated, reopen all the things when there's not even an app or track/trace then make masks mandatory, ehm???

I don't get it either. If all seems pressure groups on economy with some late "maybe we need to do this" tacked on. Crack smoking lunacy or mega incompetent/indifferent?

  • It’s only gotten more beautiful since we saw each other.

Definitely looking to get it tamed in august if I can get into town.

  • It makes a whole lot more sense if you consider they shouldn't possibly be opening indoor pubs at this point in time.

  • You think the current one is doing it right?

  • She makes the best of a bad situation.

    It’s all I can ask.

  • But FOUR MONTHS of lockdown have just gone by and they didn't think masks should be compulsory then? I just don't get it.

  • But FOUR MONTHS of lockdown have just gone by and they didn't think masks should be compulsory then? I just don't get it.

There’s little to no clarification or supports for local shop, for instance, the council only just provided us sticker to put on the pavement outside to aid “social distancing”.

As far as I can see from the people; the pandemic is a fad.

  • Key health workers were struggling to get a reliable supply of masks and of decent advice on how/when to use them. A consequence of endorsing wider mask wearing is to increase that pressure.

    Perhaps supply is finally ok?

Watching the maintained ‘official ignorance’ around masks has been weird.

  • What clarification is needed?
Hopefully someone in your organisation has been tasked with trawling the guidelines and how they apply?

  • But PPE isn't the same as the stuff people like me would be wearing to shops is it?

Initially your argument makes a little bit of sense but then when you think, hang on, how many infections might've been prevented by forcing public mask use four months ago - the healthcare system would've been under less pressure anyway! So it's again back into the "makes no fucking sense" court.

  • Open Twitter, look at posts about masks - all the standard right wing nut jobs are vehemently against them because they're mad cunts. Then look at our government. Notice the similarity?

They've been forced into it because they can't ignore the scientific consensus forever (and Macron might shut the border to the English as he threatened to do last time, which got us UK lockdown), but as is typical of our government they're doing it in the slowest, most incompetent, slapdash and confusing manner possible.

  • People can be a bit irrational, the fear they'd buy the best kit is sort of understandable at the start of the pandemic.

Since other countries have encouraged/enforced mask wearing months ago, the UK does seem very late. Netherlands: Mandatory on public transport since a few weeks, Germany mandatory in shops/transport months ago.

  • Mask wearing: Taking away our freedoms!
Seatbelt wearing: Would not surprise me if the same "argument" was taken out when that came in :/

  • I see they are planning to ditch the work from home guidance and tell everyone to get back on public transport. Pretty clear that they have weighed up which they care about most - people’s lives or the flow of cash - and come to the sort of conclusion that comes naturally to a Tory.

    Cunts.

  • There's going to be a lot of companies looking at how worthwhile it is paying massive London office rents now. Mine for example seems to have had a sudden realisation that remote work can still be done effectively, we've already got a small Leeds office, I wouldn't be surprised if we see more spreading around the UK. It's a good thing.

  • Soon we have to wear masks in shops?! What have we been doing for the last three months? Why did they bring this in now, after pubs were allowed to open and such?

The messaging is so bad that it’s hard not to assume a degree of malice: ‘It’s absolutely critical that we all wear masks to stop this deadly virus, so they’ll be mandatory in a week from now. In the meantime, as you were.’ Undermining their own messaging.

To say it’s asinine is an insult to asses, who at least learn from experience. In frigging March, 4 months and >42,000 UK deaths ago, there were internationally recognised experts in South Korea telling western countries that the use of masks and face coverings by the public was essential to controlling the virus, right after isolating the sick and alongside implementing social distancing. The lack of masks for healthcare workers is a straw man, and could have easily been resolved by making the use of face coverings or homemade masks mandatory, but making it illegal for anyone other than healthcare workers/military/police to wear surgical grade masks in public.

More civilians have died from Covid than died during the Blitz, so a galvanising government programme to recover masks for the NHS and make the public wear masks would have been appropriate. Instead, we got idiotic distractions and arguments, only to arrive at the same conclusion but still with a half-assed implementation.

    Right, I feel better.

  • Councils also make cash from rates, so while I am hoping this means fewer office blocks and more housing, there will be a knock-on effect that way.

I suspect there are so many offices become they bring in more rates than housing. At least that's the only logical -kind- explanation I can find for so much more office space over housing space in Belfast...

  • At least if you choose not to wear a seatbelt and crash you kill only yourself (and maybe a frontseat person in your car so actually this is a bad argument).

  • Our secondary office is closing.

  • You said essentially wrote what I'm thinking. Although honestly even my brain is so flabbergasted it's basically in a "what the actual fuck?!" loop every time I see a bit of UK Covid news.

  • I suspect there are so many offices become they bring in more rates than housing.

I don't know if there are England/Wales/Scotland/NI differences but in England an office can be converted into flats even if the council don't want it to be so the remaining ones are because the landlord thinks they can make more money that way, not what the council wants.

  • Not a barbers, but ESHK are good and not far from you. No idea on pricing anymore, but they used to be at the lower end.

Nowadays (well preC19)) I just go to a place near my work intermittently when my hair is longer, and a £9 local barber when it's short.

  • Looks like you haven't had the pleasure of the car safety ads we got over here:
