I use a special lamp in the winters for "sunshine effect". Really works well for me.
When i "researched" what lamp to get i stumbled upon in earphones that supposedly had the same effect by light in the ears instead of the eyes. These were only the makers claims tho but there seem to be some support for it working. Never tried those tho as it felt a little to out there for me so i settled for staring into a light bulb for 30 min day instead .)

Thanks for pointing that out. I'm happy now.
It's a show where they thought of the title first and just had to make it.

Classic Dom, turns out he's a member of SAGE

Much like the sun does, or so I've been told.

It seems that it doesn't quite say he's a member, just that he's been attending meetings. Perhaps attending meetings proves that you're a member, but he may just have been there. Normally, the etiquette is that people sitting in on meetings don't actively participate, but hey, why would Cummings worry about etiquette?

That article is absolutely shit at answering the one question I have - why drones? What's the advantage here?

We’ve run out of humans who will step foot on the Isle of Wight.

Ferries aren't running? Other than that unlikely possibility it seems like a solution in search of a problem.

Today's Guardian article certainly has some interesting risks listed alongside a pandemic.
Revealed: UK ministers were warned last year of risks of coronavirus pandemic
Less likely than a nuclear conflict overseas or a marauding terror attack but more catastrophic.

Who in Southampton got £28m to play with drones!

I live near Cheltenham
I live in the postcode GL50, that of the race course. The course actually sits right at the end, mostly surrounded by GL52 (the code with the highest count).
and looking at that map the two areas with the highest number of cases also appear to be those with the highest population density.
It’s not explained by density. GL50 is of the highest density. GL51 and 52 are higher in population but much larger overall. Stroud, Gloucester and Cirencester are all comparative and are not showing any concentration on that map.
GL52 is basically the north edge of Cheltenham, fields and three villages. For that area to get the most cases in Gloucestershire suggests a fair bit of transmission in area around the course, known for accommodating race goers in pubs, hotels and BnBs.
The (high) average age of residents probably doesn’t help.

As likely as poor air quality, apparently. I'm sure the person who put that spreadsheet together felt awfully clever for having done so but I'm not sure much science went into it.

The ears thing is called ‘human charger’ - a colleague uses one in an attempt to beat jet lag.

On german ebay because thats where I live. Seems to work and has a racing cyclist on the box, definitely have spent 30€ on more questionable things with pictures of bicycles on it.
In situations like this I always lament the fact Charlie Brooker's NewsWipe is no longer made.
