Love the colour of the Cinder cone. do you know what year the frame is? It reminds me of when I first got into mountain biking, seen it a lot in mbuk etc.

Front derailleur sorted with a shim - new BB-UN55 and Deore XT anno 1993.
Mini-V in the back, Deore V up front - both of them feel like they’ve got some bite.
Fork still feels like a pogo stick, but I’ve had so much fun ripping around the local trails this afternoon.Everything on the final build is parts bin except pedals, headset and bottom bracket which I’m sure you can tell. Lana’i is Hawaiian for yard sale though (right?) so I’m keeping it in that spirit.

The more I ride the plastic Unicanitor, the more I think it is the perfect saddle. Got it second-hand in perhaps 2012, it is indestructible, impervious to weather and such a good shape.
Now when the Cinder Cone is gone my next bike will be a BMX - not sure what kind but I'm absolutely certain it’ll have a BMX Unicanitor to perch upon. -

Since last update: new tyres, cut steerer and prepped for handlebar change - this bike has lived outside as you can see from the rust and dust. Still my most ridden bike but I’m looking for a replacement with a drilled fork (or a fork swap) to put the Wald 137 (not pictured) on a small front rack instead of the struts it comes with.

I‘m thinking of getting a Surly Troll 420 A-C fork to replace the current 440 A-C for this Kona - how much will I mess up geo and handling? Current rake 38 mm, Surly fork 43 mm
Any input is very much appreciated -

More 26 inch action.
Picked this up for about €40 from a local seller - he said it was rough but functioning. Got home, took it off the car rack, and noticed the rear rim is completely bent. Image attached is with swapped seat and pedals.
Plan now is to cold set from 120 to 135 (pray for me) using the Sheldon 2x4 and string method. Will ride it with only a front brake for now, until I can find some clamp on v-brake posts (if they exist?)

Guy I bought it off said he had swapped the seat post - cool with me I thought until I got home and swapped the seat - turns out he swapped for a solid piece of stainless steel!
Poor picture, but you can see it here in all its hefty glory. Will have to swap this before riding too, it must weigh a kilo or something.

Update on the Kona as well:
Swapped forks before my sister came to visit. Since brake and shifter were integrated - and the fork hade v-brake mounts for 27.5, I mounted disc brakes and rummaged through the parts bin for a front shifter. Found only a gripshift on first look, but this’ll be swapped or removed (if I decide for a 1x setup). She rode it for about 20 km on some local trails and loved it.
Racks are temporarily mounted as I need to get some more nuts and bolts from the hardware store. Fork legs will have a Blackburn cargo cage each as well, my ambition is to be able to haul firewood in the back in a crate or basket, while packing sleep system etc. up front.Edit: disc compatible wheel up front as well, gotten for free from a colleague.

New bike taken for a shake-down ride.
1991 CyclePro Ambush, one previous owner. Seems like this was specced with complete Shimano Deore LX, including the pedals.
The guy I bought it off said he hadn’t swapped anything but tyres - he was right, even the grips and brake pads seem to be original.Rode 3 km of techy single track - 5.5 km/h average 😎 Coming from modern geo (and wide bars!) to this was a real eye-opener - people racing in the early 90’s must’ve been proper daredevils..!
Plan is stem converter, and new cockpit. Also need to fix the left shifter - the “click” doesn’t stick when trying to shift out of smaller front chainring anymore (worked yesterday though).

I wouldn't use either. One trick taught to me was to use some LS-X as it never set and keeps water out.
