Lost Dot regrets to confirm that Jason Smith, Cap 106, was involved in a collision with a vehicle in the Ústí nad Labem district, Czech Republic on 27/07/2022. Jason has decided to remain overnight in hospital following an x-ray that showed no broken bones. We have been in contact with his next of kin and are doing all we can to assist. We ask that everyone treat this matter with the respect that our community has always shown. We will provide further updates when we are able to.
did note he had gone off track of after cp1, hopefully he gets fixed up and is alright

And people wonder why I've no motivation to race on the road.
Hope he makes a swift recovery.

yes, apparently he's at the Masarykova Hospital (judging from the live GPS tracking)

Robin clearly thinks so!

Has Bjorn Lenhard had a problem at some point? He's on 31% stopped time, at least double the front pack.
Fiona's on only 16% stopped time having been robbed and needing police help.
Jim's on 32% stopped and he had to get his rear triangle replaced. Did very little cycling Tuesday daytime.

BL was 'touring' just now had a look at the weather in the Alps and decided to take a train?

I've lost my nerve with the traffic. Bowling along on a narrow A road in Czech Republic, trucks squeezing past and blind bend overtakes. It doesn't feel right, but I won't finish unless I take these roads as alternatives are much slower.
I'm going to re route on quiet roads to cp2, or at least to Germany and reassess.
look forward to reading the above and seeing what's happening at the front.

Looks like he slept for nine hours in a hotel last night and in the morning he turned back, rode to a train station and hasn't moved in an hour or has turned his tracker off.

Parcours one is pretty close to some serious wildfires. Bad, even more so as it's quite a beautiful area. Can recommend riding there.
Situation seems a bit better, but has anyone seen apocalyptic tcr photos?
Can't check how close it really is as I am busy. -

On Tuesday a volunteer at CP1 posted on FB that they go check on the parcours regularly and all they could see was some light smoke in the distance.
And from the race report:
We are aware of the unfortunate wild fires in this region north of Decin at the moment. Rider safety is paramount to us. The Race team has been checking the parcours the last hours and will continue to monitor the situation; they will communicate with riders if the situation deteriorates. We will continue to monitor the situation. We hope people affected by the fire are safe.
Haven't seen any photos from org or riders that shows anything about the fires.

Yes. Gavia is a nice climb.
Did it during ALPI4000 and accidentally rode it beforehand because I didn't know it was on the ride route. The side opposite Bormio was resurfaced somewhat while we were there but lower down is quite skinny with some sketch tarmac but it's still very quick.

Yes, there was Assietta in 2015. I didn't ride this edition.
CP3 in 2017 was somewhat unpaved in the Tatras "CP3 parcours was a 7 km long climb with an average 10% gradient, with some sections unpaved, ending at a hotel and mountain lake in the Tatra National Park." from Ride Far but I don't actually remember the climb at all myself.
2018 Karkonosze Pass was claimed to be unpaved but IIRC it was just a shitty mountain road, ie. still more pavement than not. Bjelašnica was definitely unpaved and unrideable in sections. It was dust and rock and a proper bastard. Really should've had walking shoes for this as it trashed my good shoes.
2019: CP2 had 80 km of mostly dirt/gravel roads and a climb up to the peak of Besna Kobila at over 1,900 m elevation in Serbia. Very steep and too rough to ride parts. Most of the top 2k was walked

Was he hit on the parcours?
That's two riders that have been hit this edition. Both "ok" but it's still shitty to hear.

Meaghan Hackinen was going backwards for a while in the replay I just watched. Wonder what the reason was for her.

He's DNF on the tracker. What happened?

Looks like she stopped then rerouted to a bigger city. Mechanical? Food?

Right. Hadn’t zoomed in enough to realise that’s where it was. Is my memory playing tricks with me in making me think there have been off road segments at checkpoints in previous editions?
