I hate riding more than a few feet on 20inch wheels... hell on earth.
-
• #28
but on this bike you can actually sit down
-
• #29
On a BMX you can sit down or pedal, but not both at once.

Think how easy it would be to manual

More FAQs please.
Also quirky biek.

I was so close to preordering a Neutrino, but couldn't bring myself to spend that much on a +1 bike. Best of luck with the build
-
• #34
Subbed to this frivolous bike build.
-
• #35
Have now ordered two cranksets for this build
White Industries, which has a 94bcd
Shimano XTR FC M900, which hopefully has a 110bcd, which means I should be able to buy a 44t narrow wide for it.
White industries will probably go into the "spare parts" bin.
Other parts ordered for the build from the bay of dreams
Ritchey trail stem + seatpost
Deore Hydros
Halo T2 rims (new tho)Also obtained a pair of 26er wheels with hope hubs. Will get these dismantled and built up with the T2 rims. Hopefully.
Currently doing my head working out an SS gearing that will require the least outlay to turn into a geared...gearing when the time comes. The small wheels mean that you can get low gears very easily, the tricky part is speccing a big enough chainring that you get a decent top gear.
Assuming the smallest cassette I'm going to find starts at 11? So a 44t chainring will get me 74.7 gear inches. Which seems pretty low? But maybe it's fine for small wheels? According to sheldon thats 20mph at 90rpm, which seems...fine? I should maybe go up to 46t.
Though of course having a massive ring on the front, whilst making it easier to run with gears when the time comes, makes it harder to run SS. What's the largest rear cog I'll be able to find that'll fit on what I assume is a 10 speed shimano freehub? I guess if I can find a 16 that'll put me at 54 gear inches, which seems acceptable for a single speed
FAQ
Why are you buying an overpriced BMX frame and then skimping on eBay second hand parts
Environmental reasons. And also because I don't have any money because I spent it all buying an an overpriced BMX frame. Will it bar spin
No it won't bar spin. -
• #36
This link is broken, what was it?
-
• #37
whats the ETA of the frame? and did you order direct from VO USA?
-
• #38
I ordered it through my LBS, they said "October" so probably Thursday 31st. A little way away but you have to get up early if you want a bargain.
-
• #39
any update?
-
• #40
I sent my box of parts to the bikeman. He said he's waiting for the bikes to reach VO in the USA, at which point they'll ship mine over, so I'm refreshing VO instagram waiting for them to say they have the frames and are shipping them.

Bloody hell, I'll just take a pogo stick abroad... maybe I'm just shiftless... tis a REALLY great thing though...
How the h*ck does it fit in a box? With the right components, your
bike should fit in an airline acceptable box. Here’s a big list of
little things I do to save space:-Remove the bars
-Remove the fork
-Deflate the tires
-Remove the freehub body with the cassette still attached (easy if you have our Grand Cru hubs)
-Take off the crank
-Take off the sliding dropouts - this shortens the frame and keeps those bits safe
-Rotate your stem so it sits flush with your bars if you have riser or swept bars
Safety Second! Here’s a list of things to protect your bike in
transit:-Tape up your box where it contacts the frame or the wheel axles
-Remove your rotors and put them in something flat. I use a piece of folded cardboard.
-Use clothes as padding. You’re already bringing them...right?
-Save the rear triangle dowel your frame came with! It will keep your rear from getting crushed while in transit
What size did you get?
-
• #42
Large.
That list does seem abominable, but I guess not much more than any other travel bike?
I'm mostly going to be putting it into a car.
-
• #43
Subbed because this is a bike that I’d love to get but have no need.

Patiently waiting for word from the bikeman. Idly looking at secondhand hardcases I could turn into bike cases.

If I've read this correctly...
Any HG sprocket from a cassette will fit on a shimano compatible freehub. So you can go as large as you like at the back.

I apparently missed the email my LBS sent six days ago asking about gearing, grips, saddle, tyres.
Have presently specified ss, whatever lock on grips, cambium c15, and maxxis grifters.
Was slightly tempted to get Schwalbe big apples in 20" x 2.15 but I suppose if you've got the clearance you may as well fill it. I do feel slightly suspect about BMX tyres given no one rides them for distance (as I understand it) and I'd rather not be repeatedly puncturing but ho hum. Easily swappable if thats where i want to go.

54 gear inches seems really low to me, though I've never ridden a small-wheeled bike. Check planetx for cheap single speed kits and cogs for 10sp freehubs
-
• #48
54 inches is low, similar to what i have on my proper BMX and my sscx bike (sometimes)
BMX tyres are great, and if you go for proper BMX tyres you can go up to 2.35/2.4 if the frame allows.
Also, I have a 40t nw chainring that'd fit that WI crankset

I've cycled miles on bmx tyres, no issues. Even over glass...

That time we rode to Brighton ?
It's bad when a bike with a lefty fork makes your bike look like an affectation.
