Didn't get a picture, but kudos to the kingfisher which decided 30 seconds after I sat down was the perfect time to fly across the front of the hide.
Nice day out at Sevenoaks reserve, although didn't spot a great deal else (lapwing, little ringed plover, possible nuthatch). -

No photo either, as I was driving at the time, but I saw a curlew today perched on a dry stone wall on the Yorkshire moors. It completely threw me as I assumed they spent all their time in coastal waters, but have subsequently learnt that they migrate to moorland to breed.
Every day is a school day.

It may have been, in part at least, the sound of curlews on the hills above Teesdale that prompted me to ask my now wife to marry me back in 1992.

Best photos from Sevenoaks were of this friendly robin

Some people will blame anything but themselves, shameless!
Word of our sunflower hearts must've finally reached the greenfinches who made a sizeable dent this morning.

An early start this morning provided views of song thrush, sedge warbler, whitethroat and yellow wagtail, among others.

My usual white wagtail had been swapped for a grey variety on my stream crossing commute this morning. Only got two quick snaps before being drenched by a DPD van, WAC.

Just had a Jay land in the garden, every other bird legged it. No camera to hand.
Not seen one for years and forgotten how chunky and impressive they look. Saw one on springwatch taking fledglings out of a nest. Didn't seem a good year on springwatch for baby birds!

Anyone in and around glass mills pool in Lewisham should keep an eye out for 4 raptors (hawks / falcons of some kind).
-
• #2519
No but could they be with young and being told to fuck off and get your own place?
Seeing 4 at once is quite unusual. -

Yeah, would make sense.
I’m “fortunate” enough to be there most days of the week. I’m sad enough to admit it’s been the highlight of my months. -

Glorious Sedge Warbler?

If you're lucky they could be hobby's who can be gregarious and often hang around water bodies looking for dragonflies and other big insects attracted by the water - then again could be a kestrel family etc.

Saw a hobby out rather earlier than usual today - before the sun came up at 4.50. There were already dragonflies out and about, so I suppose it makes sense. Lots of other things seen and heard, will share a few snaps shortly.
