Sounded great as well. No sign of the short eared owls.

Was down on the Exe estuary over Christmas/New Year, it is a call sound when big flocks of geese go past, don't get that in Derby, instead I appear to have an insomniac Robin

While we're on robins, made a new friend, the little sod is now somewhat fatter courtesy of my maggots.

This isn’t a thread I frequent (despite a keen interest in birds) but hopefully it is ok to cross post a thread I’ve just put up from the classifieds. I’ve two sets of basically as new Avalon binoculars for sale here

Few fleeting glimpses of a goldcrest in the back garden. Very exciting: never seen one before. Little bugger would not sit still to have its photo taken tho.

They are a nightmare to try and photo, so small and quick but always make me smile

Got to Walthamstow wetlands today and saw the kingfishers within minutes of being there. They always hang about near the Coppermill Tower apparently. Only had my phone on me so photo is a bit pants.

Hedgerow birds on my walk today were fully convinced that today is the first day of spring.

Yep, the singing has started and my son has started complaining about the blackbirds again.

Cheers - yes, conditions could hardly have been better. Just a bit tricky underfoot, a mix of mud and ice.
Wish I lived on the Dee - Slimbridge is close to me but it doesn't have that 'big sky' feel. Best place for me this time of year is the North Norfolk coast. Can't beat a cloud of Snow Buntings and frozen fingers ( OK, you probably can ).
