  • Lovely chuff.

  • Amazing pics, the first one is crazy

  • Love those!

Brilliant little wander out on Oare marshes today. Lots of spots but no burd action pics because phone camera. Came across this on the way back… wtf would have done this to a Swan?!

  • Jesus.

    Fox?

  • Guess so. Pretty gruesome. Luckily the kids have seen enough Dino-based carnivore on herbivore action on telly not to be fussed. I’m loving taking them out and making a list of what we saw, my daughter then looks them up and draws them when we get home.

  • Was at my Dad's today and he has filled up all the feeders for winter, so many birds coming and going, such a fun thing to watch for breakfast, nothing of note apart from he has a sparrow with white wings, he recons it came last winter as well

  • We now have three jays visiting the garden. Two eat the mealworms I put out whilst the other keeps watch on me.

  • The end of the jay.
The Jays on my local patch fly out of the woods and across the marshes to bury food for the winter. It’s tough this year as there aren’t many acorns, which is what they normally cache.
The local peregrines have their eyes on them but despite seeing several attempts to catch them I’ve not seen any success ( on the peregrines part!) but they clearly got one of them!

  • Maybe they're not watching KatBalou but actual predators, then. :)

  • So I'm at the top of Box this am. #onlythebrave

I see a smallish hawk like bird hovering...

Then it goes into a full stoop and rapidly descends.

Now. My question to the hive. Would it have been a Peregrine or are there other raptors that do this?

  • Kestrel?

  • Interesting as I have seen a breeding pair up there.

I did not know they could stoop dive like that.

I did not know they were year round either.

  • New tennant

  • We went to Burnaby Lake today in one of the short intervals over the last 2 months when it hasn't been pissing with rain, and saw a Merlin. Such impressively fast fliers. I think they like to hang around there because lots of people go there to feed chickadees and other small passerines.

  • Can't remember when, but I think someone mentioned seeing a massive bird drifting over London a few months ago. This young male Sea Eagle passed slap bank over Hyde Park on the 7th of September - maybe the one ?

  • I definitely saw something around then when I was walking home from work in that area

  • This little visitor protected our bikes while we grabbed coffee at Regent's this morning
