  • tbh I was a bit worried about sounding like I'd been in the British army.

  • Nah. Not at all.

I think most people would assume you were working for an oil company trying to bribe officiaries to secure export contracts.

  • Surely GC is blazer squad.
Walts would love to get in but can't get past the gate keepers right?

  • buy an aga

  • Brilliant, piss take post has qualified for this and the guardian tofu thread

  • Ludicrously large ones (like my own firm's)

  • had the misfortune of going there to collect something at the flea market

  • Please keep your pesky context away from this thread. Thanks.

  • Bought 2 kilos there

  • getting new boots on the motor

  • Vintage stuff

  • the oats jar

  • (not golf shoes)

  • In favour. How do I get this and the rest of the stupid golf courses around me changed to public parks?

  • How do I get this and the rest of the stupid golf courses around me changed to private housing (whilst not increasing the provision of services to reflect increased population)?

You don't, because this ^ is what will happen.

  • Good point but where have they done this and how do we lock in the "must be a public fucking park you Tory cunts" law to protect it?

  • You tell Ealing to fuck off. They can only make things worse. It's the same council that was happy to revoke the protected woodland spaces status in the green areas around Hanger Hill.

It's worth nothing that they compare their idea with the Stratford Olympic park. The Stratford Olympic park is not a fucking park. It's a vast amount of tarmac, private dwellings, a shopping centre and a football club.

  • I don't know what was before Olympic park but I'd rather be in a place with a velodrome and no golfers.

  • "The courses are subsidised by the council by approximately £80k per annum."

    I'm paying for these fuckers?!

  • There's no part of that that says they're looking to build private buildings and shit, other than the comparison to the regen in Stratford. There's a lot of talk about rewilding and climate.

But, they're politicians so you know as soon as the baggies of cash appear, all bets are off.

  • You wouldn't believe how much councils support and subsidise football stadiums.

  • Yeah, it's effectively a subsidised council owned private run service. I'm not a golfer, but I like the idea of having a facility with far lower barriers to entry than the other clubs around ealing. Could the land be better used? Absolutely. Should it? Dunno. Would I trust Ealing? I have no idea what they are thinking, their comms are a muddle: It's the environment init mixed with aspirations for something like Elizabeth that's not about the environment at all.

  • Golf trips to Marbella surely?

  • Having read the proposal... 100% definitely should be a park.

I wouldn't model it on Stratford though, and there's no way in hell that they'd achieve a similar visit and revisit rate without things like stadiums, venues, velodrome, shopping centre, etc... that's just delusional thinking.

Should still be a park, but pretending it would be like Stratford is fanciful.
