  • When was the last time you talked to a prostitute to gain that knowledge?

  • Nah, sex work is work, but there's certainly a massive opportunity for exploitation, largely because of the illegality.

  • bad take on a number of levels

    1) even if sex workers are being exploited (exploitative sex work does exist after all), those sex workers still deserve the right to exist and work without being criminalised for being exploited. They also deserve to be free from moral judgment by others.

    2) it’s the fucking 21st century. A huge portion of sex workers now freely choose sex work over other work - largely web based sex work like onlyfans or camwhoring, but also more “traditional” sex work. These workers also deserve to go free of criminal or moral sanction.

People may not advise their daughters or sons to go into sex work, but those sons and daughters have autonomy and the ability to make their own damn minds up, and some of them come to the conclusion that actually sex work is the career for them at this time.

  • This is exactly how I imagine a golf bar conversation might sound.

  • I suspect that this conversation is a good example of how nebulous our collective understanding is of sex work and, perhaps more importantly, the impact that it can have on those that engage in it.

There’s loads of research on the psychological effects of working as a first responder, or as a psychologist, or doing other roles where you engage with others in the most intimate of ways. Since sex work is illegal, it’s more difficult to conduct research.

  • Is sex work illegal?

  • Should’ve caveated: it’s illegal in many forms and in many countries, impacting on the ease with which research can be done.

  • I could introduce you to a couple of sex workers (both female) who could put you straight on this in a matter of minutes. Don’t presume to speak for others under the guise of moral outrage when you have no idea of you’re on about.

  • It's also impossible to separate out from our current economic system. For e.g.

No one chooses that line of work if they have other options available to them.

    Vs.

Some people choose escorting/prostitution because it’s well paid and flexible.

Would those escorts/prostitutes in this hypothetical choose the same profession if they had another well paid flexible option?

    It's basically impossible to know.

  • Rachel rabbit white’s articulation of sex work is v good, worth a read, even if you’re pro sex work and haven’t

Some interviews about her book, which is also v good and explores in more detail her feelings towards it all

Her views especially relevant for this thread outside of sex work is an extra touch of irony

  • I was thinking exactly the same lol

  • for our pool

  • Was mentioned on top gear. Sold the gtv before the massive value rise.

  • paying 1200 quid a month to nursery

  • In London? Bargain

  • Lol, wait until the school fees start

  • school fees

That's a choice though, so you can't really complain about that.

  • who sends kids to private schools tho? I'd imagine only cunts. I didnt move to first world to pay for kids education.

  • Always makes me laugh that people pay through the nose for schools that don't require their teachers to have any qualifications.

  • Bookmarking this tweet for when little amey is enrolled at St Ponceby's School for Supremely Gifted children

  • It is about the schools name....see Eton as proof

  • Nice little tax avoidance scam, especially if you have a few kids and a load of money. Most aren’t just schools, they are charities remember, and sending your kid is a donation if you pay a lump sum in advance.

  • Oh yeah, that is a nice tax dodge along with the charity status.
