  • Yeah I really like aurum powdercoating. They do great work, quite cost effective and fairly quick. Highly recommend I've had 10s of frame powdercoated and never a problem. He collects from a bunch of London bike shops

  • Not sure how I managed to miss all the updates about the workshop but that place looks great, almost a homely quality to it, rather than just a big square plain workshop. I guess that's old French buildings for you.

Trails and MTB look good. How do you find the shifting with that 12spd SRAM groupset?

  • The groupset has been great yeah, shifts well and seems solid. I really like the 50t hah, i use it a fair bit, really handy to get up stuff.

  • I finished the track frame a bit ago, very pleased with how it came out. Was fun to do.

  • It's going to get painted by Jack Kingston, which is exciting. I think it will look great, sounds like it's going to be purple although I'm not sure if the colour has been fully settled yet.

  • I'll get some better photos of the frame at some point in the next few days.

  • I made a stem for the mountain bike, it was very nice to build, its so fun to weld heavy wall stuff after welding the 0,6mm tubing of the track frame. Im pretty happy with the stem, although i kinda wish id made it a bit more aggressive. I havent got any pics of it on the bike yet but will do soon

  • I also sent the track frame off to paint with Jack Kingston, I'm exited to see it done, i think it'll be really cool he does lots of great stuff.

  • Nice! Looking forward to see the painted frame

  • Same yeah! I do like powdercoat for many things, however real wet paint is a very different a way nicer finish, so its great to have some frames get wet painted.

  • Ive been enjoying the stems recently, made another one today, for my road bike. I dug out the stem i built when i built the frame and put it on. I like the way it looks but im not really into the single blot clamping anymore, so i built another stem with a double bolt steerer clamp, and did a four bolt faceplate. Very happy with it, i think it came out very cool, i will just slot the steerer tube then put it on the bike and see how it looks.

  • The matching stem vs the old zipp stem, the zipp stem was cool but slightly too long and i didn't like how it wasnt level. The pink stem is nice but i dont like the lack of bolt redundancy.

  • This is the stem i built today to replace the pink stem, basically identical except more bolts and removable faceplate, which i havent done before but came out nicely. I used rack bosses, which may look a but funny, we'll see. In the future i'll look for a different threaded boss to use.

  • Fantastic work as usual, think the use of the rack bosses is great - nice shape and ode to classic frames/ framebuilding.

  • Thanks! Yeah I hope the classic look will be cool on a modern steel bike, will put it on tomorow and see!

  • In the future i'll look for a different threaded boss to use.

Or find a little lathe/local machinist and make your own?

  • Very nice stem!

  • yeah that would be cool, i could also try and get some laser cut.

  • Thanks! I put it on the bike, very happy with how it feels, got a few hours in yesterday and the position felt good.

  • I also put the 90mm stem back on the mtb and its incredible how much difference a shorter stem makes to traction. I know this isnt news to anyone but mtbing is new to me. Especially round here where there's a lot of loose rocky climbs. So im definitely convinced of short stems on mtbs and will probably built a 60ish mm stem to test.

  • I just went on an overnigther with Tore of Starfish Bicycles
The stem on his daily uses braze ons for saddle clamps which recesses the bolt head. It is a very neat solution imo.
    On this as well:
