Bolt on rear end it is then.

Paragons new sliders are very nice but pricey and no UDH option. Their other sliders and rockers do though

Haha i would actually love to make a breakaway frame at some point. probably a road bike tho

Mm it is very tempting, i used them on the last mountain bike and they worked out well. Ill see how it goes/how unsure i am of geo

Check all the information that Kristofer Henry (44 Bikes) has put online on MTB-Geometry.
Also, I found the Geo-charts of Neuhaus Metal-works really insightfull! -

Thanks! Will check them out

Im quite excited about this mtb but i cant build it atm of course so i made a 3d model. I forgot to mention earlier that i intend to build a rigid fork initially because i'm fairly sure i have everything for a fork already, except maybe the crown race seat. Id like to put squishy fork on but building one will be cheaper for now. Id quite like to do a segmented construction as per the model. In particular with the crown pushed forward a bit. My main problem with rigid steel forks is that often they look a bit funny, where there is an awkward transition from the 44mm head tube to the 28.6mm steerer and fork legs. Pushing the crown forward seems to alleviate that by giving the crown some more width.
The frame should clear 2.5 ish without a yoke, i may use a yoke tho, will see. Id prefer not too i like the bend-less/yoke-less look

Id also like to build an abrasive tube notcher. I think i want to make my framebuilding process a tad more streamlined, as much as i like a good file it does take a while. I have a drill powered hole saw tube notcher which is fairly effective, but i think id also like to experiment with abrasive notching. I havent got very far with it yet but have been mulling it over and hopefully will complete a cad model soon. Ideally with mostly 3d printed parts.

I see you say you've already got the fork parts but you could always get a tapered steel steerer and make the crown chunkier to match the OD of the HT

Yeah! I was thinking about this. Will see how it's going as I do like the look of a tapered steerer.

I've not made any particularly tangible progress but I'm much closer to having a workshop. We've now settled in Provence and decided to hang around for a while so I'm on the lookout for garages.
So far have seen an almost 3 car garage that was rented for 150€ per month. Crazy stuff. It's all so cheap. Id like to find maybe half the size just to keep the overheads low so will keep hunting. There's loads of garages tho so should find something soon. Most of my tools arrived a couple weeks ago, so I have almost everything.
However I left my expensive and sensitive tools (tig welder/torch stuff/torches etc) at my parents in London as I wasn't sure how much I trusted the moving company (it was suspiciously cheap). So there's a few things yet to come. Not sure when yet, possibly in a month or so.
Anyway will hopefully find a space in the next few weeks then I can get back to it, can't wait.
In the meantime I have created some renders of the MTB frame. For a laugh but also to figure out the colour I want. Haven't put too much time into them so they aren't perfect but it's cool to get an idea of what it'll look like. None of the parts in the render are necessarily parts I will use, just what I could find 3d models of.

The chain is in the wrong place because I haven't photoshopped it to be in the right place yet :)

Looks like a fun project, if you need a curved seat tube, we have the tooling to bend 1 1/2" x 0.035" wall 4130 tubing to a 410mm CLR. It's a great fit to follow the circumference of a 29" wheel.
You'll have to machine and weld an insert into the top of the tube to reduce the I/D for your seatpost, but seeing what you've been building, this will be no problem for you.

I like those renders/the bike.
Where in Provence are you? Holiday there was soo nice.
Have you been to pont de diable in thueyts?
Incredibly nice spot to swim. -

Ah that would be great actually, thanks for the offer! I'm not entirely sure what I want to do with this frame just yet but if I do then I will drop you a message :)

Thanks! I haven't been there but it looks nice on Google will have a look if we end up nearby! We're quite south about 100km north of Nice.

Pink ftw. Are you putting the 12spd sram groupset on this?
Did you learn to do all of this 3D modelling at uni or college or something?
I could imagine the appeal of a long rear end as well for sure. Maybe i will end up building both. Seems like thats what i usually end up doing hah.
