  • That's great, particularly loving the shape of the seat stays. Pleasingly sharp bends.

  • Thanks! yeah these are the Cx bend stays, bit more conservative bend than the mtb stays ive used in the past. Still clears more than enough so will stick with them in the future i think.

  • You are pretty good at this!

  • next up is a hardtail for a mate, what ive learnt is that i know nothing about mountain bikes. If anyone knows anything about geometry speak up pls. Its meant to be a copy of the 21 santa cruz chameleon but with a straight st so slightly longer rear end to have a bit more clearance. I feel like the head tube should be shorter, not sure if i have something wrong in bikecad with the fork.

The challenge is that my mate is 6ft4 ish so everything is enormous. No columbus tubes even close to long enough so will go with reynolds for the main triangle.

  • Im also gonna build another disc road frame. With an ISP and an externally routed hose down the dt. Ive done a complete circle on internal routing and dont like it anymore (again)

  • Haha. I've been so stubborn when it comes to internal routing. Refused for years but have just done two with internal cable routing and liked the process so did my own internally just now. I bet I'll hate it too :)

  • haha yeah im just a bit fickle i think, however i reckon this will be the final iteration. Will put the di2 inside but keep the hose external. and then hopefully ill be happy with it. can only build so many of the same frame. The current one with the hose into the headtube is a major pain to work on and rattles a tiny bit no matter how much foam tube i put in there, which is bugging me.

  • I see. I've only done full stainless and brass tubing for internal routing

  • This looks so good Max, I can’t wait to paint and build it for the old man. Plan is to go with some kind of pale grey, may be RAL 7040 or similar. Forks are black and components are black / raw carbon. It’s going to be really smart and I’m sure it will be great to ride!

  • awesome! sounds great. I think grey will look super nice

  • Yeah i think internal tubing is the best bet for routing stuff, i can see why most people dont do the through the ht and loose in the tube.

  • Also picked up this cotic off @roadwarrior, i had a dent in the top tube. To begin with i was just gonna replace the top tube, but realised i dont have any 34mm heatsinks (for the ht)and couldnt be bothered to make some, so put a 44mm headtube on as well.

  • Looks great mate, it's amazing to see how good you have become at this :D

  • ^ This!
It’s great following this thread and seeing the progress you’ve made. ✨Bravo ✨

  • Thanks @Heldring @dangeek, i appreciate the kind words! Its definitely a constant learning process, at least the mistakes I make nowadays are smaller and less frequent :)

  • Glad to see it getting a new lease of life! Can Fit a decent carbon fork to it now

  • decent carbon fork to it now

    yeah!

  • Im also planning to build a few sets of forks at some point, will make a fork jig with my framejig (like image). I bought two forks worth of steerers and unicrown discc blades. So will start with a fork for my tracklocross bike and maybe build a rigid fork for the upcoming mtb if i feel like it.

  • I also just finally bought an oxy fuel torch, having been using a straight propane and a mapp torch for the last few years, very excited. Means braze ons will be much less of a pain, and i can braze dropouts and other bits instead of tigging them.
Only problem is the air products near me has stock no of oxygen, so will maybe tide myself over with some expensive london gases 02 til air products are back in stock.

  • Got Daves frame and the track frame off to powder on wednesday, finished it quite a while back but aurum is only collecting every two weeks now, and i didnt manage to get down to dartford to drop it off. Also started on the disc road frame, initial plan was to bang it out in a week, i had all the parts so no excuses. I made real good progress until i welded the dropouts to the chainstays and decided i hate plate dropouts. I know if its not perfect ill just end up doing it again in a few months so decided to discard the dropout/chainstay assy, ill use them on something else in the future and will go back to the dropouts i usually use. However theyre out of stock so have to get them from reset racing, but theyre not responding to my emails atm...
