  • Built it up for a friend as a singlespeed. Mine had smaller clearences though, 26x2.10-ish slicks were on the edge of clearing.

  • Bizarre, yours was a bit newer was it not? Seems like a backward step, but then again this was the 90's.

  • Wider tyres didn't become very common until the late 90's if I am not mistaken. Mine is a '92, non-pro variant of Axis. Here. :)

  • Ive already pulled this build back apart and am in the finishing stages of putting drops on it.

What brake levers / shifters are you using?

  • 105 non aero levers and ultegra bar end shifters. Would like 600 tri colour brifters but a set would cost more than the bike is worth.

  • As they stand today.

  • Both look great!
We'll definitely have to do a canal side ride / drink soon :)

  • Diamond Back is shaping up to be very good.

  • Such great proportions on this DB, love the stem+bar setup as well.

  • Managed to sort out the throttle. Crank Bros Highline dropper post remotes have a lot of cable pull I found when doing some digging. It can also be RH mounted under the bar, where as most dropper remotes can only go underneath on the left, so thought I'd try it out. It works perfectly! I stuck a big O-ring around it to give it some extra return spring, I would want the throttle sticking open. The throw is about right and the lever sits comfortably under the thumb.

Also got the Maguras fully dialed in now, but setting then up was a bit of a ballache. Re-bled both and fitted new green frog pads. They are really bloody good still, not quite as powerful as my discs on the trail bike, but close. More than adequate to bring it under control now though so all good. I think this project is about there tbh, roll on the good weather so I can go and play on some dry trails!

  • jesuuuus xrist!!!! i wanna see you ride this!!!!

  • Also the DB is now finished and running. Its functional, and I intend to store it away from home, so it has a few low value functional parts added. Its great fun to ride actually, and sprints really nicely in the drops. Its so smooth with 25psi in the tires, and just floats over tactile pavement tops and cattle grids. Its annoying that the largest gear is only 48/13, it could go bigger. It is more CX / MX than my muddyfox, which was always supposed to be a drop bar mtb akin to the early 80's Potts and Cunningham bikes. Having only ridden less than 10km on the DB, I can honesty say I prefer the DB to ride, and its made me think hard about what I wanted the MF to be, and how it still fitted into the garage. More on that in the MF thread.

  • It does, that's awesome. Have you taken it out for a spin yet?

  • Only back at the end of the summer when I first built it. It had a pretty poor throttle setup and cantis then so not ideal. Bit more rounded now.
