has anyone taken the plastic chain guard off a cnoc? is it a bad idea?
-
• #79
I did - noticed mysterious orange water dripping out of the guard on my daughter's bike last weekend & bit the bullet, cleaned everything up & spent an unexpected amount of time putting the bugger back on without it rubbing on something...
I'd be reluctant to remove it completely just in case a dress / cape / welly / finger etc. get's caught in there - she fell off in slow motion yesterday & somehow managed to get her legs crossed through the main triangle, even disregarding the safety aspect it's going to stop a lot of permanent chain tattoos on stuff

Does anyone have a broken 20" wheel kids bike they need to get rid of? I can use some parts to make a bike trailer. I don't want to cut up a working bike! Something like this:
...also looking for a broken adult's bike frame that has these plates for rear brake and for kickstand:
I'm trying to make a bike trailer for carrying a busking drum kit setup.

This is dope!
Charge are lovely kids bikes, my daughter would bite your arm off for this in a few years if your little human grows out of it and you decide to sell!

Cheers, yeah it’s a fun bike. Looking forward to my daughter not even being aware of the upgrades it’s getting :-D
It’ll be going to my youngest next I’m afraid. By which time it’ll probably be 11 speed di2 with 20” carbon rims.

We are just getting onto a 16” so give it a year and I’ll Start hunting 20” bikes! -

My youngest is still on a balance bike but I’m looking forward to getting the Hoy 16” down from the loft for her as and when. It’ll be great having both of them on proper bikes!

Apologies Settle , only just seen your post .... and mbretton ... Charlie one of the youth/kids coaches mentioned it when I was helping out down there the other day - I think they’ve been donated a load of new ones so clearing the older ( well used .. ! ) ones ...
the coaches are usually down there in the day , if you drop by - schools still allowed to ride - I can ask for more details when I’m back down there later this week ... sorry for complete lack of helpful info ... ! -

Later this week is fine by me if you're heading there anyway as I'm not that near. Thanks a lot!

Just bought a second hand Frog 52 and find the complete bike quite heavy compared with a 16" Islabikes. The Frog is an ex rental bike and the tires are non standard.
I suspect the tires are probably replaced by the rental company before the bike was put in there rental fleet as the current tire seems very durable but are probably heavy as well.I would like to do some weight shredding to make the bike more comfortable for a 5 year old and think that the tires are a good starting point.
What are the forum approved 20" tires for a children's bike?
Current tires are CST Swing 20x1.95, I don't want to go much bigger as I will add full length mud guards as well.
Originals are Kenda Small Block 8 20x1.5, should I go back to these or order something else? -

Schwalbe Marathon Racers? I fitted them to my running pushchair after a spectacular blowout 100m into a parkrun (followed by a 2 mile walk home with my two heaviest kids)
£15 a pop at Merlin - https://www.merlincycles.com/schwalbe-marathon-greenguard-touring-tyre-20-100849.html

I can highly recommend rideguard mini mudguards for kids’ bikes. Easy to fit, fit a range of bike shapes and sizes and look siiickkk
I’ve fitted 3 today and now want one myself
