yeah, I've ridden older Looks in a worse state so I'm hoping it'll all be well - there is a little bit of damage under the headtube by the lower bearing cup but I'll get someone to take a look at that in time...
Not sure what to put on this - surface electrical taped Di2 or a campagnolo Athena 11... currently thinking Athena...

I’d vote for the Athena!
It looks great, I’m sure the seller was being a hit dramatic- carbon is far hardier than most believe.
Jealous you got it for such a good price!

Yeah, I think Athena would be a nice counter to the other bike... and yeah, I think they were just trying to say that if there were any issues they were making it clear it was a used and abused bike... I need to free the cables that seem to have bonded to the cable stops (assume both are aluminium) and also get a rounded out front brake nut out of the fork (allen key currently stuck in the bolt)
It'll likely be Athena with some Sram Red cranks off the Moots for now as I don't have a BSA threaded campagnolo BB
I'm very happy with the price I paid - I actually got the frameset off someone on here who'd struck a deal with the ebay seller!

Just hung these bars on - quit like how it looks with red tape (it’ll be changed)

Also - the issues, the fork currently has an Allen key jammed into the stuck and rounded out bolt head… that’ll need sorting, the shifter cable ferrules and cable ends are bonded/stuck in the stops, as is the rear mech housing… all still usable though so will build up with these if I have to… and finally, the major issue - there is a bit of chipped carbon on the underside rear of the head tube as pictured, so I’ll send some photos off to the experts for advice and quotes…

that's a proper project.
is it the same frame as the red one with the tight tyre clearances ?i think it should be 200£ onwards for a repair close to a bearing cup, hopefully just that
-
• #183
I'm hoping that the experts come back and say it's no problem as the piece that's come off is tiny and mostly looks to be paint/lacquer - obviously keen to hear their thoughts...
It's the same geometry as the red Z5 but slightly older (Z4), mechanical only but has clearance for 28mm... and a monostay...

Just got off the phone with Carbon Bike Repair having sent them the images above... they want to see it to understand if the damage is traveling further into the headset cut/downtube but think it is something they can sort and are ball parking £300ish...
I was considering sending them the Z5 as well and asking how much they'd charge to widen the chainstays...
sigh...

Just hung these bars on
What bars are these? they look exactly what ive been looking for.

• #186
3T Tornova, slight aero shape on the tops, nice deep classic curve... they're probably a bit too deep for me... want to buy them? never used, just taped up and hung onto a recently abandoned project
-
• #187
ahh nice, what width are they?
-
• #188
42cm from memory... one sec
-
• #189
ah ok too wide for me! thanks anyway :)

If you are still a fan of 3t I am selling some 3T Superergo Team Carbon Bars and a (matchy) 3T Carbon Zero 25 Team Seatpost on ebay, but I would be happy to let them go for less through here (dm if interested)

got a link?

Maybe try Rob Hayles (yes the olympian) at ReCarb. He fixed my parlee forks recently did a good job/was quite reasonable compared to the bigger repair companies.

ah nice one... I was hoping to get some competitive quotes, shame there doesn't seem to be anyone local to me in Tunbridge Wells/Kent

Front brake bolt retrieved and nearly got the front mech cable out of the stop…

They're very good - a bit old school (I belive he built Bordman's first Lotus) but brilliant quality and were cheap when I last had a repair done

Excellent, thank you!
Another ailment I’d forgotten to mention - the bb cable guide thread has come out and is seized to the bolt so need to find a spare in the jar of bits in the shed… this thing has obviously lived on a turbo train for a fair amount of time…
Still in a conundrum as to build for this, go full Athena (means I need to buy BSA Campagnolo cups) or 10 speed Sram Red that are currently on the moots leaving it for sale sans crank… think I’ll probably split the Moots as home brew Di2 routing and battery in a bag may not appeal to the masses…
Then do I just snip the rest of the seized cable outers and tape Di2 on this as best I can… or hunt for 1st gen etap on the cheap…

Sounds like a lot of small issues but I hope it's all fixable! Really love these Z4 frames
-
• #198
Yeah, I’m hopeful I’ll get it sorted… very please that the rear clearance is more generous than the Z5, current tyre/rim combo is measuring 32mm!! If it rides nearly as well as the Z5 and owes me very little then I’ll be the last owner… though as it stands I may be the last owner anyway…
Here are some Z4 builds I’d been eyeing up

Cheap frameset!
Hopefully the seller was being overly cautious with his write up
