Northern forum contingent SSMTB ride?
-
• #178
Yes please! Looking like the green one won't be hard to sell locally so hopefully wont take ages getting this built

In!

• #180
Provisional in too.

• #181
Excellent. Now to plan a suitable route.

Wheels are on their way! Bit of a fuck-it moment with the credit card after a long long fortnight.
Deore x wtb sti23 so nothing special and not particularly wide (a lot wider than what was on the 26" though so) but will do the job of holding tyres and rotating just fine. Pretty excited! If anyone has a nice-ish but cheap headset knocking about, I might be interested
-
• #183
I can sort you a headset if it's 1 1/8 external? Anything else you need?
-
• #184
Truly the enabler of this project. That would be amazing! Thank you
-
• #185
No problem. I'll dig something suitable out tomorrow. Also have press + crown race thing if you need to borrow either.

Does anyone have any 180mm 6 bolt rotors I could buy? Might be the last piece of the puzzle
-
• #187
Did a wiggle instead.
Off to the charity bike shop to get some tyres on my lunch. 2.4 ardents lol, should be a laugh -
• #188
Can't wait to have a go

Lunch test ride was everything I thought it was be: bike is good, I'm not. Very heavy and slow but by the end of the half-hour I had a bit of confidence to start (gently) throwing it around a bit.
I built this more as a go-anywhere bimbler than something to get rad on, and it seems like it's going to do what I need it to really nicely. -

Looks rad! Good proportions. I love the bars.

True to form I am NOT using this bike but am thoroughly enjoying owning it and looking at it when I go to the garage. Did manage 55km or so to Lyme Park in feb with some pals (one on 26" muddy fox, other on long, low, slack hardtail vitus) in apocalyptic wind and had a great time
I've got no money atm so have been enjoying an idle sunday afternoon with 'the bike doc' open pondering what to do with this bike. Feels like there are two routes: carbon fork and fast tyres, or dropper and suspension.
Either way I want to address the gearing, living in flat flat south manchester and wanting to ride in steep steep peak district means I keep circling in on trying dinglespeed. I'm feeling like 32:16 and 28:20 would be sweet? It's 30:18 now and was a pretty decent middle ground so a little jump up for the flat and a little jump down for the hills might be good -

Love this bike. Just looks like a massive amount of fun as-is. Maybe just add a dropper for gnarliness?
-
• #197
I think a dropper and dinglespeed are the no-brainers, but yeah, should really 'just ride the bike'

Before
After
"gravelbikeification"
Speedkings and dropping 3t at the back should should keep this fun for local trails and might mean the bike gets used instead of having to will myself to spin out to the peak district -

D'ya fancy a session in Wythenshawe Park one eve after the heatwave?
-
• #200
Nice that. Great all rounder.
Heh. I've done 2 "proper" rides on my Krampus now. Even made it out past the M60... for about 5 minutes...
