  • And then get an ebike?

  • absolutely get an eBike .. actually build one

  • Hey, don’t do that I need my discounts.

*never mind the answer is definitely get an E-bike

  • Has this cured yet?

  • You tell me. I’ll leave it until this evening at least before looking under the shitty tape

  • Extra stinky two-part resin? Usually cured after a couple of hours.

  • Excellent. I left it 24 hours and it’s rock solid now.

I’ll leave it a few days to fully harden before letting it rip

  • Not pretty but I think it’ll work

  • Looks like you sanded away a good chunk of the stuff you've added.

  • I haven’t removed any material, just lumpy resin from where the tape was creased. It looks smudgey towards the edges anyway because once you cut the carbon to size it frays and becomes un-woven incredibly easily

  • Looks ok. Sand it back in a day or two to see what you've got. Epoxy is very hard as I'm sure you know or are about to find out. If you want to fill with the resin after sanding, mix it with some of the powder from sanding to make i less runny.

  • Not pretty but I think it’ll work

    Solid motto

  • I’m stoked on this.

The seat clamp bolt is almost rounded. Wasn’t me officer!
New clamp is £21 plus postage and I may need one of those in the near future but for now I’ve ordered a titanium replacement bolt in the hope that it should be slightly tougher to round than a soft cheese.

  • I thought you were 'steel os real' bro; a never-carbon-er

  • 👌🏻🙏🏻

  • Phil is a craftsman who just hasn't discovered his true medium yet

I suspect my comment will be read sarcastically :-(

  • No I love carbon. Steel is just easier to stick together at home.

  • Not pretty but I think it’ll work

Once you're happy it's fixed, a bit of high build primer, a light sand, and a bit of white paint will have it looking mint again anyway. Given the limited effort involved, it seems worth it even if you do normally like the 'everything on display' chic.

  • Steel is just easier to stick together at home.

I'm not sure it is. Given the webpages I've read about DIY carbon frames, it all looks laughably simple. You're basically just gluing stuff together. Admittedly the sanding looks a faff if you want a good finish.

  • Hmmm... you’ll give me bad ideas

  • It's what I do best. It's my one real skill.

  • Oh shit. Noiiiice. Did you use one of the kits from eBay? If it's any consolation, I did something similar far far less elegantly about a year ago. Still works as it should. I was worried I'd made it far stiffer than the NDS, but it's holding up fine.

I'd do it again to any frame in a heart beat, unless it was a a particularly difficult cluster like a drop out or forks. I ain't touching that shit.

  • How about a mostly steel frame with carbon fibre seattube with ISP topper....

  • Thread tittle suggestion “PhilDAS learns to glue“
Good job on the repair, I’m pretty horrified by the amount of voids in the 3T layup.

  • Yeah I agree. Just put my 3t carbon stem back in the parts bin
