Subbed to make sure you dont listen to any of these people saying it needs to be slacker!
This is going to be an ace build.

• #28
Fuck your slacker! This will rip

Can anyone confirm what 105/Ultegra Octalink BB is needed for 7710 cranks?
-
• #30
105 5500 or ultegra 6500 will be fine as long as it is 109,5 long
-
• #31
Brilliant, thank you!

So it turns out Phil Wood offer their front 15 mm thru axel disc hub in a 12 mm version. Which is strange as it’s not listed on their website and I only found out after emailing them about compatibility with the Halo adapter.
Either way, there’s one on it’s way to me right now.

Recommendations for lightweight(ish) rims that will take a 700 x 38c tyre please.
I was going to go for H Plus Son Hydras but then my OCD put a stop to that when I realised when I flip the rear wheel the writing on the rim will be backwards.
Heaven forbid.

DT R470db: spec-wise like the Hydras, but with removable decals and cheaper.

Good shout, will look into it.

Nice!
The frame for this is actually being built at Shand though it’s not a Shand. More of a lunchtime project of a friend that works there.

• #39
Also look good.

Some bits have arrived from 'Merica, a Mash top cap and Phil hub.
Got stung for £70 import tax on the hub alone. Good thing I didn't order a hubset, cogs and lockring like I'd originally planned.

Subbed, this looks like awesome Radavist fodder.
Your old donut's still going strong FYI /notaeuph -
• #42
Haha, great stuff! Radivist fodder is what I was going for.
Good to know the donuts still going strong!

Hubs have arrived so I'll be dropping them off at The Bicycle Works to discuss rim options on Monday.
I also have the crankset so it'll be off to my pal to ensure they'll clear the stays.

Question(s)
Whats the chain tensioning mechanism?
Is that a 12x142 fixed hub? How much was it in total? -
• #45
Answer(s)
I will tension the chain by bulling the wheel back and tightening the bolts on the rear hub ;) This is just having a standard track rear end with rear facing horizontal hooded dropouts.
It's a standard 120 mm double fixed rear Phil Wood track hub. -
• #46
The proof of the pudding is in the eating, but I’d be surprised if that’ll hold the wheel in place when shredding off road.
-
• #47
I'm sure it'll be fine.
@mostly_by_bike did the last Dirty Reiver fixed on a Steamroller (which had almost identical dropouts to this) and didn't die or, more importantly, need to tension his chain.
-
• #48
Ah ok! Simple stuff, like it.
Do you know if Phil make a 142x12 fixed hub?
-
• #49
Super simple! I did think about sliding dropouts but though it would just be a hassle when it comes to flipping and re-flipping the wheel on long rides.
Not sure, but the front hub I ordered direct from them isn't even listed on their website so it's possible. Their customer service was excellent and they reply pretty rapid so drop them an email.

Oo yes, I saw those two - looked like they were having a great time!
Hopefully see this bike there next year :D
