The French tend to form nicknames by reduplicating the first syllable of the first name or surname. See also Jaja (Jalabert) or Poupou (Poulidor).

I just had the plumber in fixing my water heater, the Tour is on my PC in the kitchen. He asked me if I'd ever ridden it.
