You can order replacements I think

In theory you can, having trouble finding UK stock though.

I’d quite like to set up my rim brake equilibrium for kid hauling.
Would need to be able to carry kid, her stuff for nursery, and my work gear (sometimes just a laptop, sometimes a bunch more clothes).
Would quite like to go with a front rack of some description to spread the weight out. Would ditch child seat at nursery post drop off.
Sound like a sensible plan? What front rack do I need?

Perhaps a Specialized pizza rack? I have done the nursery run before with little one’s usual rucksack on the top under a cargo net and a pannier underneath with my work stuff. Then left the rucksack and child seat at nursery and carried on my way.
The rack was a bit of a faff to fit, the mounting plates being not wide enough for the fork mounts when on the inside but too wide on the outside of the rack. Got it to work fine running it on the outside but with some diy spacers. Assume it was just a quirk of my forks (genesis vagabond).

Thank you. Did your fork have mid blade eyelets? Assume so as Vagabond is built for that sort of thing
-
• #582
Yeah it has mid blade eyelets, I think the new 2022 version has 8x of them 😂. I have seen similar racks that use longer stays that go to the mudguard eyelets if you have those instead? If I remember right Brick Lane Bikes makes one…

Cheers. Yes would be looking for something mudguard eyelet mounted

Hello - any experienced travellers (flying, specifically) with kid cycle trailers?
We've got an old double Burley D'Lite which is big but the smaller (though v pricey) Croozer Kid-for-1 type things pack down and would allow us to do some cycling + have a buggy we could take on rough-ish terrain walks. Currently looking for one of those but have some doubts/thoughts. As airlines offer free pram/buggy transport for infants - would love to know if anyone's taken a Croozer/Chariot/Burley as their buggy and whether it was worth it or if the airline gave them crap for taking something so big....
Cheers, Adam

Anyone want a free Hamax KISS kid's seat? Two available. Downside is that they're in Rutland.

I put my old Kona Fire Mountain into kid carrying use a couple of years back. Perfect for nursery run, until he's over 15kg in weight. Thankfully he's still small for his age.

Got the big seat on the back of this old mtb. Eldest loved it. Shame I haven't been able to take them out since they out grew the weeride, as that was one of my covid highlights.
Want to put a wee ride on the front of the mtb so our youngest can enjoy it too, but need a new tall stem first, as the current one is dangerously past the insertion line. If anyone has a looooong 1" quill give me a shout.
Also from folks experience, is there anything you can do/is it normal for rear mounted seats to feel like you've got a tonne of weight swinging off the back of your bike?

They can feel like that. The sturdier the bike and the longer the wheelbase the better. You can minimise the pendulum effect by keeping the seat as low as possible and as far forward as you can realistically run it.

Anyone else's kid slump forward when they've fallen asleep in a seat? I have the Hamax Caress and he seems to double over even when it's on the most reclined setting. I mean he stayed that way for about 5 miles so it can't have been too bad, but it just looks really uncomfortable.

Happens to our youngest (and was the same couple years back to his older brother), with a yepp mini. He's retained by the straps and there's a bar/loop to the front, but I hold him with one arm and make sure to ride slowly, avoiding busy roads which is doable where we live... Not ideal, but at least it doesn't happen too often and I know when it's likely to occur so I try to avoid it. The good thing about front seat is that you can see what's happening easily.

My eldest never slept in the seat, I think my riding was too gnarly.
-
• #593
You can get some sort of head cushion for the yepp for that purpose I think, looks like an afterthought though.
Yeah I was pushing it staying out for so long. Wanted to show him a part of town we hadn't been to but when we got there he was just I but grizzly and wanted a nap.

Cheers @MisterMikkel @Jonny69
Kinda what I thought. TBH I'd really like to get a new bike, but I don't think that will be approved by finance right now.
Still I've been browsing. What I think I want right now is a slack and stable disc rigid mtb. The On One Fat Bikes are always cheap on ebay. But they look like they'd be a fucker to add any child mounts to what with the funny tube profiles. Otherwise I'm always worried that normal modernish mtbs will be too short in the rear and too twitchy up front.
The other thing is how long I can keep chid #2 in the WeeRide... Not long I think if they're almost 2yo which does genuinely make me think something like a Kona Ute would be a good idea longer term... Except for where to put it.
Are there any other front mounted child carers that actually take a 2-3yo irl?
-
• #596
That would 100% be shot down by finance.
-
• #597
In all seriousness though, maybe that is the way to go. Once child #2 is too big for the weeride #1 will be big enough (or rather responsibile enough) for something like that.
I guess the challenge is as I'm not that tall having a frame with a long enough TT to fit a bigger kid in front

Cheaper than a new bike, surely..

I bought a knockoff ebay Shotgun for like $50 ( https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/353818383834?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=705-154756-20017-0&ssspo=jTmCI3pmR9W&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=JQUfitnJT-O&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY ) to see if my wee one would enjoy it, ended up using it for 12 months with no issues, now she's outgrown it and is on her own bike or a trail gator.

I got a hamax trailer which Ive posted on here before. Hoped to run it with my gravel (mason bokeh with hunt 4 season gravel disc), so I got the token adapter that is available. Sadly the token thru axle adapter doesnt seem to be big enough.
Anyone else had a similar situation? reckon I could run a different adapter if I can get the right size thru axle to QR.
If I cant sort it, then the trailer will stay on the colnago. That was planned as a sunday bike but it's not really working out like that.
Realised I need to replace the foot straps on the Hamax Caress I bought 2nd hand, which seem to be out of stock in the UK. Any reason not to just make some with 20mm webbing and a few buckles?
