  • Looks good! How do you like the tyres compared to the Michelin ones?

  • In all honesty I’m not sure I can really tell a difference, not with the gap in time between riding them. If I bought some Michelin’s out here and rode the Maxxis in the morning and the Michelins in the evening then that would probably allow me to be a bit more helpful.

  • It’s bike related, which one is laterally stiffer and more vertically compliant.

Or which one is betterer because it’s more expensive.

You must be new to bike product reviews.

  • It's not a proper tyre review until you mention "predictable traction"

  • Some of the trails here are covered in what I can only describe as talcum powder - around 10cm deep in places, whereas other trails have huge grip.

On the powder it's all about speed, and angle to the ground - you're a lot safer wall-of-deathing it around the top of the berm after really letting the bike run in than you are trying to creep around the bottom at walking pace.

On the grippy stuff - well, it's grippy, ride as you normally would.

In other news I went back to Morgins today - I can reveal that it's still mental.

The closest trail in Morzine to the Morgins Blue has to be (and we gave this a bit of thought) the Pleney Black DH run.

  • In other news- the guy I was riding with yesterday wears a POC chest/back protector.

We got chatting about it and he mentioned that there was no way he’d be riding what we were riding at the speed we were riding it without the armour.

As someone who has cracked ribs and partially deflated a lung in a crash I admit I’m starting to think about it.

Does anyone else wear more than knee pads when in high speed/high consequence terrain?

  • I wear a back protector, and most people I ride with wear at least that or a back/chest combo. I started wearing the back protector before I bought a full face helmet, partly because I use it skiing, so I already owned one. I've had too many ski crashes where a back protector would have or did help to not wear one biking aswell.

  • D30 type one, or a hard shell of some kind?

Holgar’s POC stuff was a hard chest plate and then a D30 back protector.

  • Hosepipes are banned in Morzine but the Morgins bike wash comes from and goes back to the river:

  • I have poc knee and elbow pads.

Been wearing a leatt chest should and back protector since last summer. I went to a bike park in France and they insisted on body armour (loaned for free) and a decided I was more than happy to wear it.

Last week I took a spill on a berm and have a hideous bruise on my hip and thigh, so a set of leatt padded shorts are on their way.

I fall like a sack of spuds, don’t bounce like I did when I was younger.

You are fit enough that the extra weight won’t make much difference, I suspect I will wear summer shorts and jersey for more of the year as the protective kit underneath is slightly warming.

The body protection also has pockets so has helped me migrate away from needing a hip or back pack so much of the time, this allows better airflow around my body.

  • I wear a Leatt body protector, this one

It’s a mix of 3df and hard shell.
I wouldn’t do any uplift riding without it, even on the hottest days.

I also wear Leatt Impact shorts.

It’s very much Betty Swollox after a days riding, but it’s a small price to pay if it helps keep me able bodied.

  • I wear one of these when I'm riding bike parks, but it's 20 years old and I'm looking for something new. The chest protection is just some foam and the thing is so big it makes me look like I'm playing American football

  • D3O, so much more breathable and comfortable than a hard shell. I'm only at the point of gaining confidence on smaller jumps, so not doing anything huge.

  • Some of the trails here are covered in what I can only describe as talcum powder - around 10cm deep in places, whereas other trails have huge grip.

Yeah, around Alpe dhuez and Deux Alpes most of the hiking trails are covered in the same light brown icing sugar dust, kids have taken numerous falls just hiking as it makes any rocks underneath super slippy.

  • Just absolutely hosed it down with rain and hail here- brief but very heavy.

Looks like the storm has passed though as the thunder and lightning have moved down the valley.

Hopefully this will be good news for the trails.

  • Which impact shorts 4.0 or 5.0?

  • Most of motorbike world is now using d3O or some sort of it. I’ve got it on two suits and last crash I had, it saved my ass.
No brainier to use it these days on any type of heavy two wheeled riding.

  • wow - Whats your OnlyFans link?

  • That’s the pair I have due to arrive tomorrow.

  • 1,012km on the Madonna now- majority of it on fast steep and rough trails, I’ve washed it and lubricated the chain. Needs new grips, but they’re Renthal super-soft.
